Spencer families invited to literacy night

Spencer families are encouraged to save the date for a family literacy night, presented by the school district’s Title I and Title III programs. The event will be held Nov. 14 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Spencer School District, 300 W. School St.

Julia Cook will be the guest speaker and author. As a former teacher and professional school counselor, Cook writes practical, easy-to-use stories that not only make a positive difference, but are fun to read. Cook has become one of America’s most recognized authors of social-emotional storybooks for children. Her books have become staples in schools and homes, as they continue to thrill young students.

Cook is nationally recognized as an award-winning children’s book author and parenting expert, and her books have been referenced in such publications as Parent’s Magazine, The New Yorker, Green Child Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Yahoo. com, DrLaura.com and BabyZone.com has. She has also been featured on CNN’s HLN News, and several large metropolitan networks. More information is available at juliacookonline.com.

Cook requests that adults only attend her presentation while students have learning activities in the gym.

“Come see what your children are learning with their teachers and enjoy a free meal together. Students will do fun learning activities in the gym while you hear an amazing speaker,” a press release from the school district states.

There will be a raffle to follow the presentation with prizes awarded. You must be present to win.

Families are asked to register for this free event by Nov. 6, so event organizers can plan for food. Registration can be found at https://forms.gle/oepvpMW5tSdpZfZw7 or parents can email Lisa Vann at lvann@spencer.k12.wi.us with any questions or comments.
