Let the whole world know what you do for them

There are 1.4 million Lions in the world, in more than 200 countries, but other than building ramps and donating money for playground equipment, do you know what a Lions club does? Each chapter is more than just having delicious chicken dinners, brat feeds or manning cheese curd stands – there are some really big things the clubs are part of.
That’s what District Gov. Dennis Sykora, of the Tilden Lions Club, spoke about Oct. 11, while handing out awards and commendations at the Cadott Lions Club Governor’s Night. Sykora is no stranger to Lions and their service, as his parents were Lions, along with siblings.
Sykora encouraged that whenever a club completes a service project, fundraiser or donation, that they put it out there to the public, so everyone knows what the Lions are doing. Bragging about their work doesn’t come easy to the Lions members, but Sykora is among those emerging in leadership to promote the idea.
For example, with the recent wildfires that swept Maui in Hawaii, the Lions were the first ones on the ground, with tents, money, food and water, for everyone over there. Yet, no one ever hears about the Lions relief efforts in disasters, because members are humble and not in it for the thanks.
However, if clubs want to grow – if Lionism the world over wants to grow – that service needs to be shared.
“I want the Lions to not be the best kept secret anymore,” said Sykora.
