Chiefs battle it out with a tough Trojans team

Cornell was on the road Sept. 21, for a volleyball match-up with New Auburn, in an effort for the Chiefs to stay undefeated in the East Lakeland Conference.
It didn’t look promising at the beginning, as Cornell was down two sets right off, 25-23 and 25-17, but the Chiefs battled back to take the third set, 25-17.
“…And then, in the fourth set, the Trojans had the lead, 23-17, but a big block by (senior) Marcella Boehm for the side out, brought (senior) Brooke Sime back to earn a couple points,” said coach Amy Lorenzen. “The Trojans got their 24th point , but the Chiefs were not giving up.”
Freshman Kylee Hetherington went back to serve and with that, combined with a big kill by Brooke Anderson, Cornell tied the match, at 24-24. Pulling ahead with a back row attack from Sime, the Chiefs finished the set with a 27-25 win, forcing a fifth and final set.
The final set started out back and forth, but after the Chiefs went ahead at 5-4, they wouldn’t let go of the lead and took a 15-9 win for the night.
