Cadott still undefeated through seven games

By Ginna Young

Cadott’s girls basketball team is on a roll this season, bringing with them an undefeated record as they head into the heart of conference play.

Dec. 6 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 68-26)

Parents’ night coincided with rival Stanley-Boyd coming to call, for a conference showdown. Always an exciting game for both teams, Cadott held a commanding lead in the first half.

“We haven’t been rebounding as well as we can, but we did tonight,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

The Orioles couldn’t get past Cadott’s blazing defense and quick offense, with the win going to the Hornets, 68-26.

Senior Lauryn Goetll racked up 20 points, followed by junior Emma Kowlczyk, with 13, and senior Elly Eiler, with 12. Senior Eva Enestvedt ended the night with 8 points, while sophomore Kasey Moldrem had 5. Senior Laken Ryan and junior Bradee Burish each added 4 points, with freshman Kennedy Nerdrum chipping in with 2.

“The players subbing in are doing a great job, as well as the starters,” said Hazuga. “Playing good, even when you’re not shooting good, is always the key.”

Dec. 9 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (W 60-54)

To end the week, the Hornets headed to Osseo-Fairchild, for a battle with the Thunder.

“It was our toughest game so far and a big test for us,” said Hazuga.

Cadott got off to a good start, leading by seven at the half, but by the second period, the Thunder went on a run and took the lead.

“We just kept playing our game and regained control,” said Hazuga. “We made big plays down the stretch.”

The Hornets went home with a 60-54 victory, stretching their undefeated season to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.

Goettl had another big night, with 27 points – nine of those from three-pointers – while Ryan also had several shots from beyond the arc, finishing with 10 points. Eiler came up with 12 points on the night and Kowalczyk notched 9 points.

“It was a really good win for us,” said Hazuga.
