Hornets hurt by early injury

A large meet at Athens Sept. 29, saw the Cadott cross country program face some struggles, right off the bat. The Hornets senior leader, who normally places in the top three, had difficulties on the course.

“Peter (Weir) rolled his ankle, so pulled up and didn’t finish the race,” said coach Tom Weiss.

Sophomore Saibyn Will placed highest for the boys team, coming in 53rd, with a time of (19:47.9) and a personal best, with sophomore Ewan Weir just a few steps behind in 55th (19:51.3), also for a personal best. Sophomore Will Morgal was next, in 64th (20:24.8), while junior Sage Handrick ended in 79th (21:19.2).

Senior Jake Rowe placed 82nd (21:25.3), with freshman Gryphen Lindeman ending in 102nd (22:06) and senior Dawson Webster right behind in 103rd (22:06.8). Junior Braden Benzine rounded it out for the boys in 135th (27:06.4).

On the girls side, freshman Iszy Sonnentag notched 13th place (21:39.9), while freshman Josie Roth was 30th (22:55.3). Junior Jaycee Stephens came in 46th for the Hornets (23:51.2), with sophomore Cortney Weggen a step behind in 47th (23:52.9).

Sophomore Lyla Weggen finished in 64th place (24:38.7), followed by sophomore Mia Weggen in 67th (24:52). Freshman Lexi Bremness came up with 84th (26:07.9) and freshman Marley Mengel was 85th (26:08.5).
