Let those blues and yellows shine for 2022 Homecoming
It’s time to festoon Cornell with blue and yellow colors, in support of this year’s Homecoming week, Oct. 9-14. Residents are asked to fill the city with school spirit and turn out in force for the events happening throughout the week.
To begin the festivities, Sunday will see a Color Run, sponsored by the Spirit Club, where participants wear white and pass through pops of color on the route through town. The walk/run begins at noon, at the high school parking lot (registration is at 11:30 a.m.).
Afterward, the students will decorate the hallways of the high school, with their efforts judged the following day, Monday. During their Chief Time 2, a game will take place between the volleyball and football players.
Then, the public is invited to an alumni volleyball game at 6:30 p.m., with the crowning of the king and queen following the game. The next day, Tuesday, members of the teams and Spirit Club will read to the elementary students, to get everyone in the schools involved.
For Wednesday, during Chief Time 2, the winner of Monday’s fun game will take on the staff. It’s Dig Pink for Thursday, with a raffle to raise money for those affected by breast cancer during the volleyball team’s game. Prior to that, a free community tailgate party will be held at 5:15 p.m., put on by the Spirit Club.
Wrapping up the public participation in Homecoming, is a pep rally, with class skits (call ahead to request permission to attend), followed by a parade down Main Street at 3 p.m. A powderpuff game will then be held at 4 p.m., building up to the big football game.
