Unity stabbing suspect pleads not guilty


The suspect in a stabbing that occurred at Perla’s Place Bar in Unity pled not guilty at a hearing in Wausau on Tuesday.
The suspect, Leovigildo Cruz Hernandez, 18, of Abbotsford, pled not guilty after allegedly stabbing a victim multiple times in the abdomen.
The case is now heading towards a trial which will be held some time after a pre-trial conference on June 21 at 9 a.m.
Hernandez is charged with 1st degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon, a Class A felony. Hernandez is currently being held in Marathon County Jail on $250,000 bond. During the preliminary hearing on May 2, Marathon County Detective Eric Enerson stated that the report from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab indicated that both Hernandez’s and the victim’s DNA were found on both the blade and the handle of the knife. He also noted a third DNA sample was collected from the handle of the weapon.
So far, no one has come forward as a witness of the stabbing and the victim could not identify whom he was stabbed by.
