The Colby Community Library (CCL) staff is encouraging area youth and their families to enjoy the 2023 summer reading program.

Registration will be from June 1 to June 10 at the Colby Community Library for the “All Together Now: Color Your World” reading program for ages 3-12 and “A Spectrum of Reading Fun” for teens.

We invite children ages 3-12 to join the Reading Record Program. Keep track of pages read or listened to on a reading record folder and be eligible for a prize choice from the “Rainbow of Prizes” at the Finale on Thursday, July 20 at 10 a.m. in the CCL outdoor amphitheater. If it is raining, the event will be held in the RCU Community Room at the CCL. The CCL will be closed to the public July 20 until 1 p.m. to prepare for the Finale.

A minimum of 500 pages must be read or listened to and recorded to be in the prize drawings. Books need to be checked out from the Colby Community Library to be used for the reading record program. Please read at your appropriate level. You may begin checking out and reading books when you register; however, only books checked out AFTER signing up may be counted. The earlier you register, the more pages you can read and count! The reading program is based on honesty—record only the pages you actually read or have read to you!

Record pages and return your reading record to the CCL by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 17 to be eligible for prizes. Readers reaching the Red Club will have their names in the “Rainbow of Prizes” drawing first; we will then work backwards through the clubs, ending with the Violet Club members.

Red Club: Read or listened to 4000 or more pages Orange Club: Read or listened to 3500-3999 pages Yellow Club: Read or listened to 3000-3499 pages Green Club: Read or listened to 2000-2999 pages Blue/Indigo Club: Read or listened to 1000-1999 pages Violet Club: Read or listened to 500-999 pages

Decorate “A Rainbow of You” to hang on the mural in the Roy G. Biv Room, aka RCU Community Room. Return it to the CCL by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 17 to earn a chance in a random drawing for colorful prizes at the Finale.

Youth registered for the program are encouraged to view the gumball machines. Fill out a slip when you are at the library to guess the total number of pieces of gum in both gumball machines. (Limit: one guess per day.) The submitted guesses will be checked and those closest to the number of items, without going over, will be the winners. Top winners will choose a gumball machine or another colorful prize.

Color, Color Activity Booklet

Families will have colorful fun with the Color, Color Activity Booklet included in the registration bags. Complete 30 activities and fill in the blanks with what you accomplished. Return it by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 17. Prize bags will be awarded at the Finale to those successfully completing a minimum of 30 activities.

Each week, visit the CCL’s “Rainbow Pool” to pick up a free craft bag for at-home crafting fun. Take & Make kits are all rainbow themed this year.

“A Spectrum of Reading Fun” Teen Program

A teen summer reading program is available for ages 13-19 with the theme “A Spectrum of Reading Fun.” Stop in the library for details and to view the prize packs teens have a chance to win. In person registration is June 1-10 at the library. All program materials are due back by Monday, July 17 at 5 p.m.
