Stratford High School homecoming week is from Sunday, Sept. 25 until Saturday, Oct. 1.

This year’s homecoming week theme is “Road Trip,” which is fitting because this fall the Stratford varsity football team is playing all its home games on the road in Marshfield, to allow enough time for the newly-planted grass field to grow at Tigers Stadium.

Homecoming festivities begin on Sunday, Sept. 25, with school hall decorating from 1-4 p.m. and girls football games at Connor Park, with warm-ups at 4:30 p.m. and games at 5 p.m.

The dress up day theme is “Destination” on Monday, Sept. 26. Seniors will wear Las Vegas attire, juniors Nashville, sophomores L.A./Hollywood, freshmen Miami, middle school New Orleans and school district staff Honolulu.

Dress up day on Tuesday, Sept. 27, is “Tutu Tuesday.” The volleyball team plays at home against Marathon on Parents’ Night and the cross country teams compete in Edgar.

The dress up day theme on Wednesday, Sept. 28, is “Fake an injury.” Dress up day on Thursday, Sept. 29, is “Country vs. Country Club.”

Dress up day on Friday, Sept. 30, is “Tiger Spirit.” Homecoming prom court competitions are at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gym, followed by the parade at 2:45 p.m. Stratford’s varsity football team plays at 7 p.m. against Weyauwega-Fremont at Beell Stadium in Marshfield.

The homecoming dance is on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8-11 p.m. in the high school gym, with the coronation at 7:30 p.m. The homecoming dance theme is “Final Destination-Alaska.”

Scholarship winner

Alexis Folz, a 2022 Stratford High School graduate, has received the Freshman Honors and Panzigrau Opportunity scholarships at UW-Eau Claire.

STH 97 construction

Construction work continues on STH 97 from Reflection Street in Stratford to Northridge Street in Marshfield until November.

Work crews are removing a portion of the existing pavement and placing new asphalt, making repairs to the bridge over the Little Eau Pleine River, replacing culverts and guardrails and modifying intersections to aid in reducing vehicle crashes.

STH 97 will remain open to traffic, but motorists can expect lane closures controlled by flaggers. One lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals is located near construction work on the bridge over the Little Eau Pleine River. Drake Avenue will be closed while the temporary traffic signals are in operation.

Tween writing group

From now until the end of this year, young writers between the ages of 8-14 can hone their writing skills by participating in an online tween writing group organized by the Marathon County Public Library.

Each month a new writing prompt will be posted in the group, giving participants new material to think and write about.

Registration is required by visiting http://bit. ly/3Arn3w2. For more information, teenagers can call 715261-7220.

Book Club

The public is welcome at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, to visit the Marathon County Stratford Branch Library to discuss author Alice Walker’s classic novel titled, “The Color Purple.”

People with questions on the August Book Club can call the Athens library at 715-257-7292.

Grab & Go kit

Marathon County Public Library will offer a free Grab & Go kit for children at all nine of its locations during the month of September.

Each kit will contain supplies for making a woven nature loom in which they can display interesting things they find outdoors like feathers, dried flowers, leaves and more.

People wanting more information can contact the MCPL main headquarters in Wausau at 715-261-7230.
