‘My Fair Limey’ puts cowboy twist on Shaw classic

The Wild West comes to the Midwest with the Greenwood High School Drama Club’s annual spring play, “My Fair Limey” by Thomas Hischak. The full-length play will be presented in the Greenwood High School cafeteria on April 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and April 16 at 1:30 p.m.
Directed by Stephanie Glaser with technical director Kelsey Hoverson, “My Fair Limey” is a spinoff of the George Bernard Shaw classic, “My Fair Lady.” According to the synopsis of the play, “My Fair Limey” follows the story of Barclay Mellonford, a prim and proper Englishman who has traveled to the settlement of Wildcat Crossing in the American West. The difference in language and mannerisms between Mellonford and the local ranchers and cowhands causes a great deal of confusion until cowgirl Dixie Kline makes a bet that she can find a way to teach Barclay how to talk like the locals within one month’s time.
The play stars Rogan Travis as Barclay Mellonford, Destiny Durrstein as Dixie Kline, Bria Thomas as Birdie Mullen, Christian Thomas as Fergus Tink, Emily Hebert as Ada Burr, Christian Kuester as Amos Dabbs, Logan Gorton as Calhoun Bick, Katlund Etlicher as Lottie Kline, Braelynn Johnson as Sally Tremain, Madison Stieglitz as Marty Greensboro, Tori Prindle as Tandy Greensboro, Marissa Hernandez as Prudy Greensboro, Olivia Cullen as Bud Greensboro and James Durrstein and Jaren Cullen as townspeople. Members of the crew working behind the scenes on the play are Karsyn Penk as light board operator, Jennifer Rodriguez as sound board operator, and Aubin Herdman-Clark, Jaren Cullen, James Durrstein, Hebert and Prindle as stage crew.
The drama club members have been working on the production since the end of last year and have had to learn Western and British-style accents in preparation for the performance.
“It’s been a kind of figure it out as they go, but they picked it up and have done really well with it,” said Hoverson. “The kids have worked really hard to bring this to life, there’s humor in it, and it will be fun to see. Come on in and see something a little different.”
The public is invited to attend one of the group’s performances. Tickets will be available at the door at $7 for adults. Students get in free.
