Serve Local seeking volunteers
The dates have been set for Serve Local, a week of Clark County teens and young adults helping their community through service projects. This week of service will be June 19-24.
Serve Local coordinators are looking for businesses to sponsor t-shirts, youth to apply for registration, adult volunteers and project suggestions from individuals or organizations in need.
Business sponsorships can either be for advertisement as part of the event and their logo displayed on the event t-shirts for $100, or anyone can choose to sponsor a youth for $50. Youth must pre-register by June 2 to guarantee a t-shirt. The cost for the entire week is $50, which includes food and overnight lodging at Five Seasons Retreat Center, W8830 Heintown Road, Willard. Youth have the option of camping overnight but are not required to do so. The students will have two community service sessions each day and free time with available activities each evening. Friday will be a fun day of kayaking and swimming. An optional activity will be available for those who do not wish to kayak.
Adult volunteers can be anyone who is 21 or older, holds a valid driver's license and passes a background check. Volunteers can commit to the whole week or certain blocks of time that work for their schedule.
Project coordinators would like the projects to be within a 25-minute drive of Five Seasons and something that can be completed in two to three hours by the youth participants. Example ideas are painting a fence or small shed, staining a deck, cleaning a garage, weeding a garden, mowing a lawn or pressure washing.
Serve Local coordinators request that they meet with the owner and visit the project location prior to the event, so they cannot accept any requests the week of Serve Local.
