Using some technology I have ….

Using some technology I have acquired since last Friday, I am not going to ask questions. Just get right to writing. I’ve been battling what the dumb computer says is “no internet.” Now it appears to be working, so I will get right at it. Happy spring. I hope it brings lots of warm weather, nice spring showers and anything else you may want.
First off, I want to comment on Valorie’s column in the paper last week on her trip to the Holy Land. That beats anything I have ever done. I can’t wait for this week’s paper to come and hope she has material for a couple more columns to follow. It’s the only way I’ll ever get to see it.

This seems like ages ago, but I want to comment on the Legion birthday banquet I attended; thanks to my son Mark for hauling me there and home again after it was over – in the fresh fallen snow, I might add.
The speaker was interesting, even if I had to go home and look it up on the computer to see what she does.
It was the crowd that just took my breath away. When I came to Loyal, the Legion met in the basement of the city hall building, right below the city library. Who would ever have guessed what might happen, thanks to the push by Wally Szymanski, Pete Lindner and a few more Legionnaires I forget at the moment.

There is an old saying about no news is good news. I think that may be the case now, as the West Coast and East Coast are battling floods while we just sit here and watch the end of winter and spring’s arrival.
I spent two springs in California just outside Oakland. The first year it was mid-March as I left home on the 8th, then to Fort Lewis and then down to Camp Stoneman, just outside Pittsburg which is inland from Oakland.
The thing that really seemed welcome was the beautiful green hills. By May they were already turning brown and in June the fire department went around camp and burned any brown grass that showed. It would be November before any rains came, but never any flooding as they show us on television now.
Speaking of snow, we got quite a bit early last week. I marveled at how pretty it looked. I didn’t have to go out in it. But the next morning it seemed prettier than ever. Somehow the trees picked up some frost that just seemed to sparkle as the sun came up. Isn’t it nice to be able to just sit and enjoy those little things in life?

I guess you could say I spent a weekend watching basketball games. Well, there didn’t seem to be anything else on and I didn’t even have to change channels. What was heartbreaking was to see Purdue lose. Here was a team with a 7-foot-4-inch tall player and they lose? I guess the other team had ways around the extra inches and that is what the game is all about.
Looks like it is suppertime, but I want to get this sent before “no internet” should show up again.
