Spencer FFA member team stronger

By Jaela Krause, Spencer FFA secretary I am Jaela Krause, a sophomore from the Spencer FFA. I am the secretary for our officer team. We have been planning for FFA Week, which is coming up as I write this. FFA Week is from Feb. 18 to 25 this year. During our FFA Week, we will celebrate in many ways. We will be doing dress-up days Monday through Friday and having fun activities open to the whole school.

This year has been a little different for us. We have a new agriculture teacher. We had to take time adjusting to the new environment this school year. It has been a learning experience, but I would say all in all everything has been good. We are still doing speaking contests, quiz bowl and leadership conferences. We even went to the 2022 National FFA Convention. Even though things have been different this year, our new agriculture teacher is doing a great job.

Our FFA officer team this year has a lot of sophomores. We play a big role in keeping our FFA going. Two sophomores went to the District Leadership Development Event where we competed in the extemporaneous speaking competition. We learned a lot of things by partaking in that event. We also brought a middle school quiz bowl team, who won. They will be moving on to the Sectional Leadership Development Event. Two of our members also went to participate in the Half-Time Conference, where they learned about FFA events and opportunities they could use for our FFA in the future. They also attended leadership and teamwork workshops.

Coming up, we have a strawberry sale going on. Our fruit sale had good sales this year, so we are hoping our strawberry sale will also be good. Also coming up are the Experiencing Discovery, Growth, and Excellence (EDGE) and Connect conferences that some of our members are going to attend. We all look forward to overnight Member team,

from p. 8 conferences because all of us learn a great deal of leadership and teamwork skills at them. For Easter, we will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt. We usually have it in our gyms and it is free for anyone to come. It is a good way to spread the Easter cheer while little ones get to enjoy hunting for eggs with surprises inside.

Although this year has been different, with a lot of ups and downs, our team has become stronger. We all enjoy working together and helping our ag teacher with anything needed help on. We all look forward to the years to come and to sharing more amazing memories together.
