Edgar FFA goes whitewater rafting Edgar FFA goes whitewater rafting

By Olysta Baumann Edgar FFA Chapter Reporter The Edgar FFA officer team went on their annual officer retreat at the beginning of July 2022. The officers had the opportunity to go whitewater rafting to kick off their 2022-23 officer roles.

The newly elected team left school at 6 a.m. and went up to the Wildman Adventure Resort in Athelstane near the UP of Michigan to take on the different classes of rapids that lead their way down the Peshtigo River. When arriving at the destination they were suited up with life jackets, helmets, and paddles.

The next step was to take a bus to the start of the adventure where the water was calm and placid. The instructor then explained safety rules and different paddling techniques that would have to be used while going through the rapids. The water began to pick up as the raft began to rock back and forth, which is when the team knew they were in for an exciting ride down the river.

While on the raft, the members had to learn how to work together to successfully get through the rocky waters. When going through the rapids the team was able to get action pictures taken of them by a worker of the Wildman Adventure team.

At the end of the journey the whole team decided to jump off the raft and swim to shore as everyone was already completely soaked from going through the rapids.

After the adventure, the group spent time planning out the upcoming year while enjoying some well deserved pizza. Goals were set for the National Chapter Program and developed our program of activities. It truly was a heart racing, fun-filled day with memories that will last a lifetime.

The Edgar Chapter’s officers are as follows; Katrina Mata, president; Carver Higgins, vice-president; Brooklyn Schwoerer, secretary; Brady Stencil, treasurer, Olysta Baumann, reporter; Kendalyn Dahlke, sentinel, and Alexa Lang, parliamentarian.
