Cadott four-peats as Cloverbelt Conference champions

Cadott’s boys wrestling program finished out the regular season strong, with a dual championship crown, conference title and seven individual league champions.

Jan. 31 vs. Home Triangular (72-6)

In their final meet of the regular season, Cadott hosted a triangular, going up against Thorp-Owen Withee, with a boost from the up and coming grapplers, during youth night.

“Our youth coaches have done an amazing job, and their hard work and dedication, transitions very well into our junior high and high school programs,” said coach Josh Spaeth. “The youth made a lot of noise, which made for a very exciting event.”

Coming up with wins for the Hornets, were junior Lukas Simenson (113 pounds) over Cera Philson, in a 0:56 fall; freshman Monte Lodahl (120) over Steven Williams by fall, in 1:26; senior Nick Fasbender (145) over Alden Capek, with a 1:00 fall; senior Cole Pfeiffer (160) over Ben Hehhemeier, in a 0:30 fall; senior Levi Lindsay (195) over Caden Lane, with a 1:44 fall; and junior Axel Tegels (220) over Wyatt Wulff, by a 3:07 fall.

Receiving wins by forfeit, were sophomore Kaleb Lodahl (106); junior Nick Goettl (126); senior Brayden Sonnentag (132); senior Tristan Drier (152); junior Caden Kingston (170); and senior Dawson Webster (182).

The combined victories gave Cadott the win, 72-6.

Jan. 31 Home Triangular (W 70-6)

The Hornets also faced off with Bloomer-Colfax, with the squad again coming up big for Cadott, in a 70-6 victory. At the end of the night, Cadott claimed the Cloverbelt Conference dual championship for the fourth year in a row.

“It was a great night for Cadott wrestling,” said Spaeth. Earning wins for the Hornets, were K. Lodahl over Drew Ryder, with a 14-1 major decision; Goettl over Zeke Anderson in a 5:04 fall; Sonnentag over Jacob LaGesse by fall, in 1:06; Fasbender over James McElroy in a 0:54 fall; Drier over Miles Lueck by fall, in 1:00; Webster over Brok Mc-Cann in a 2:15 fall; and Lindsay over Samy Espinal, with a 3:25 fall.

Simenson, Pfeiffer, Kingston, Tegels and sophomore Tucker Salzgeber (285) all received forfeit wins.

“We are excited for the post-season and will continue to get better, each and every week,” said Spaeth.

Feb. 4 Abbotsford Conference Meet

The Hornets then headed to Abbotsford for the Cloverbelt Conference championships, returning from the day with not only the league championship, but also seven individual crowns.

Earning first place wins and the title of conference champion in their weight class, were K. Lodahl over Abbostford-Colby’s Matt Jakel by fall, in 5:43; Sonnentag over Breckin Burzynski, of Stanley-Boyd, with a 15-3 major decision; Drier over Regis-Altoona’s Tommy Tomesh by fall, in 3:13; Pfeiffer over Hunter Breaker, Osseo-Fairchild, in a 4-0 decision; Webster over Regis-Altoona’s Brayden Albee in a sudden victory; Lindsay over Granton’s Wyatt Karl by fall, in 3:30; and Tegels over Willy Graham (Stanley-Boyd) in a 3:03 fall.

“Brayden Sonnentag and Tristan Drier won their third straight title, and won every conference tournament they wrestled in,” said Spaeth. “Cole Pfieffer and Dawson Webster won multiple conference titles, as well. Levi Lindsay joined wrestling late and has worked very hard to become a conference champion.”

Also placing high for Cadott, was Fasbender for second place; and Goettl and Kingston for third place.

The Hornets now look ahead to Regional action at Edgar, Feb. 11.

“Overall, I am pleased with our wrestlers’ performances,” said Spaeth. “Our ability to fight through all situations was impressive. I am looking forward to the post-season.”
