Fourth Graders busy with reading, Math and Fun

The 2022-2023 school year continues to fly by and we can’t believe we are almost halfway through the school year already!

We brought our poetry unit to an end by transforming our classroom into a Reading Cafe, which featured an “open mic” and lots of tasty treats. Students took turns reciting a poem they wrote based on something very special to them. They did an amazing job both in writing their poems and conquering some “stage fright jitters.” In our current unit of study, we are exploring the exciting world of animals by learning more about animal survival and defense mechanisms. With every reading, we’ve learned some jaw-dropping animal facts that have blown our minds. Additionally, students wrote informational paragraphs about an animal of their choice and then illustrated using a squiggle line to start their drawing.

Currently in math class, our fourth graders are showing their addition and subtraction skills with multi-digit numbers, as well as measuring using the U.S. customary system and metric system. While our curriculum has not changed this year, an exciting addition to our math class is Derivita, an online platform which allows students to complete assignments and check their answers digitally. The fourth graders have done a wonderful job exploring and experimenting with this new resource in our math classroom this year.

Our Madison trip will take place on Wednesday, May 3, when we will visit the Henry Vilas Zoo, the Wisconsin Historical Museum and our beautiful Wisconsin State Capitol. We are always looking for donations of aluminum cans to help fund this amazing fourth-grade trip – our can cage is located in the south teachers’ parking lot along Highway C. Thanks for all of your help!
