A large field of competitors didn’t keep the Cornell-Gilman Wolfpack from jumping right in Jan. 7, as they took part in an invitational tournament at Cadott. Each Wolfpack wrestler got in four matches during the day, gaining good experience moving forward.
“Overall, today the team ended a match below .500,” said coach Greg Sonnentag.
Sophomore Preston Fredrickson (132 pounds) placed seventh on the day, winning his last match against Scott Johnson (Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau-Melrose-Mindoro), by fall, in 2:29.
Avenging a previous loss, senior Braeden Person (152) took the win over Menomonie’s Walker Ferguson, with a 6-1 decision. Person ended in fifth for the day.
Anthony Scofield (220) also got in on the action, wrestling hard, but falling in the ninth place match to Cole Abraham, of Phillips, in a 1:50 fall.
“We had a couple close matches, where we made some crucial mistakes that cost us,” said Sonnentag. “However, all of our wrestlers had some success throughout the day.”
