Highground support group to meet
The next Veteran/Family PTS Peer Support Group will meet at The Highground Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. Veterans, families and the public are invited to attend the casual gathering to obtain resources and more information on post-traumatic stress (PTS) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The topic of discussion for this month’s gathering will be around how music can help with PTS management as well as how music can be an important part of living a joyful, relaxed and fulfilling life. Musician and instructor Victoria Shoemaker of “Virginia Steel” will be there to perform and share information about the “Vets & Guitars” program.
This is not a professional counseling event. It is a gathering for those interested in learning more about PTS and gaining access to resources and connections to aid in PTS management and suicide prevention. In addition to the main topic, anything else the attendees would like to talk about will be included in the discussion.
The Highground is able to offer this monthly group meeting to veterans and families thanks to the support of a grant from the Charles E. Kubly Foundation.
New members are invited to join the gathering, which will include a potluck meal. Loved ones and friends of veterans who want to learn more about PTSD are welcome to attend without a veteran.
RSVPs are appreciated but not mandatory. Those who are interested in learning more or attending the gathering are asked to contact Theresa at museum@thehighground. us or 715-743-4224. The following PTS Peer Support Groups have been scheduled for 2023: Jan. 15, Feb. 19 and March 19.
The Highground is at W7031 Ridge Rd, Neillsville.
