In an out-of-conference battle, Cadott’s boys basketball team played host to Cornell Dec. 5. Cornell got on the board first and held the Hornets scoreless for several minutes. but as time went on, Cadott bounced back to take a lead into halftime.
The defensive adjustments frustrated the Chiefs’ starters and Cornell coach Steve Parker said he has to give Cadott credit, as they played a tough physical game.
“We rushed our shots and committed too many turnovers to win the game,” said Parker. “We didn’t maintain proper offensive spacing and we lacked movement without the basketball to open up passing lanes. On defense, we didn’t overload on the ball side as we had practiced and we allowed too many uncontested shots.”
With Cornell unable to adjust, the game went to Cadott, 62-44.
Leading the way on Cadott’s offense, was senior Tegan Ritter, with 17 points, six of those coming from long-range. Sophomore Warren Bowe also hit twice from three-point land, ending with 14 points, followed by sophomore Braden Schneider, with 11 points, including a three-pointer.
Junior Nolan Blum also hit a three, coming away with 10 points, while junior Brodee Burish had 4 points, and junior Jordan Peters, sophomore Nolan Freed and freshman Jackson Barone all chipped in with 2 points each.
On Cornell’s side, seniors Dylan Bowe, Dawson Munson and Blake Anders, and junior Daniel Person combined for 26 rebounds. Bowe also had 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 charges drawn on defense, while Person and junior Bentley Spangler combined for 5 assists.
Offensively, Bowe hit a three, notching 14 points, followed by Anders, with 12 points, and Munson, who also had a three-pointer, finishing with 9 points. Spangler recorded 6 points, while Person chipped in with 2 and sophomore Torren Parker added 1.
After the game, the Hornets now sit at 2-0 on the season, while the Chiefs are 2-2.
