It was a tough couple games for the Cornell girls basketball program, as they took on some high-scoring non-conference opponents over the week.
Nov. 22 vs. E.C. Immanuel non-conference (L 59-25)
Acting as host, Cornell watched E.C. Immanuel come to town, on a night the Chiefs struggled to find offense. The Lancers also had a tall squad of girls, which might have made the difference in the game.
The Chiefs fought valiantly, but at the end, had to concede the 59-28 defeat.
Nov. 28 vs. Gilman non-conference (L 61-36)
The next game also didn’t go the way Cornell would like, as they hit the road to take on Gilman.
Proving a difficult foe, Gilman put up 61 points on the board to Cornell’s 36, causing the Chiefs to drop the match.
Senior Kelsea Popp led for Cornell, with 12 and 2 rebounds, while junior Grace Harycki ended with 8 points on the night. Sophomore Bralee Schroeder came up with 7 points and 6 rebounds, and junior Lauren Samardzich added 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Junior Marcella Boehm also notched 4 points and chipped in with a rebound. Junior Makya Hetherington came up with 6 rebounds and scored a point for the Chiefs, while sophomore Alyssa Bowe nabbed a rebound.
