Greenwood track and field team competes at Colby
The Greenwood track and field team traveled up to Colby on April 26 to take part in the invitational held at Colby High School. The Indians had a couple first-place finishes from Ashtin Palms and Christian Thomas and a second-place finish from Kia Abel at the invite, showing the team’s strengths in hurdling events.
Leading the team in points was Thomas, who placed first in the long jump with a leap of 17’5.75”. He also ran in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish in 19.08 to take second; and competed in the 300m hurdles where he placed third with a time of 49.81. His teammate, Palms, was not far behind, also earning points for the boys in three events, taking first place overall in the 300m hurdles (46.21). He also placed third in the 110m hurdles (19.22) and fourth in the 200m dash, running a 25.87.
Avrey Horvath was the only other individual to score for the boys, taking seventh place in both the 1600m run (5:16.9) and in the 800m run (2:32.08). Horvath also participated in the 4x800m relay along with Cody Eckes, Hunter Ellis and Andy Mitchell. The sole relay team competing for the Indian boys took sixth with a time of 11:22.38.
For the girls, Abel led the team by placing in the top eight for two events. She took second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 56.74 and third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.19. Laura Ingold also scored points for the girls, throwing for a distance of 30’4.5” in the shot put to finish fourth. Taking sixth in the 100m hurdles (20.56) was Kayla Grambsch, and Sarah Seif placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 12’1.5”.
The Indian girls had one relay team also compete at Colby. Alyseah Anderson, Ella Reimer, Candella Soto and Ricarda Goetze competed together in the 4x100m relay, taking sixth place with their time of 1:07.5.
As a team, the Greenwood boys finished fifth with 53 points, tying with Athens which also scored 53 points. Other teams competing at the invite were Altoona (77), Colby (90), Bloomer (106) and Merrill (170).
For the girls, Greenwood finished in sixth place with 25 points. Athens was fifth (64), Altoona was fourth (690, Bloomer took third (109) Merrill finished second (144) and Colby was first (158).
