Rainbow gymnasts earn some high marks at Badger State meet

Hub City Gymnastics of Marshfield hosted the sport’s competition for the 2022 Badger State Games April 8-10, which included 17 participants from Medford’s Rainbow Gymnastics Club.

The Rainbow club had enough participants to score as a team at three levels, placing fifth at the Xcel Silver level, 11th in Level 3 and 11th in Level 2. Individually, Rainbow had four top-three medalists and three additional fifth-place allaround gymnasts. High school gymnasts Kyla Krause and Katelyn Malchow competed against each other as the only entrants in the open optional level with Krause taking the all-around title with a score of 32.9. Malchow totaled 31.6 points and won the floor exercise with an 8.55. Krause won the uneven bars with an 8.6, the vault with an 8.5 and the balance beam with an 8.05. She got a 7.75 on the floor, while Malchow got an 8.4 on bars, a 7.4 on vault and a 7.25 on the beam.

Raylin Rothmeier tied for second overall in Level 6B with an all-around score of 34.3. She tied Ella Weimert of the Deutsch’s Club of Rice Lake. Lauren Zuelsdorff of the Woodson YMCA from Wausau won the group’s all-around gold medal with her score of 35.35. Rothmeier tied for second out of 16 gymnasts on bars with a 8.4, took third on the floor with a 9.1, tied for fourth on vault with an 8.5 and tied for seventh on the beam with her 8.3.

Jordyn Grant was the bronze finisher out of 14 gymnasts in Level 3I. She earned 35.25 points to trail Chloe Garrigan (36.75) and Addison Mongin (35.4) of the M& M Gliders from Marinette-Menominee, Mich. Grant won the vault competition with a 9.35, and tied Garrigan for the top score on the beam with a 9.2. She tied for seventh on the floor with an 8.55 and was seventh on the bars at 8.15. Rylee Hartwig also competed in this group, taking 12th with an all-around score of 31.8 that included an 8.9 on vault, an 8.1 on floor, a 7.8 on beam and a 7.0 on bars.

Audrey Hueckman was fifth out of 15 girls in the Level 3J group. She got third on the beam with a 9.0, fourth on the floor with a 9.05, tied for ninth on the vault with an 8.6 and was 12th on the bars at 7.2 to earn 33.85 all-around points. Ruby Holtman was seventh out of 14 gymnasts in the 3B group with a score of 34.1. She was second on the beam with an 8.8, tied for fourth on the floor with a 9.05 and added an 8.8 on vault and a 7.45 on bars.

Those four Level 3s combined for a team score of 100.9 that beat Ashland’s Bay Area Gymnastics (97.85) for the 11thplace spot. Stateline Family YMCA of Beloit was the champion with 110.2 points.

Veronica Mateer was fifth out of 13 gymnasts in Level 7B. She earned a total of 34.15 points in her session, including a third-place score of 8.85 on vault, a sixthplace score of 8.9 on the floor, an 8.4 on beam that tied for eighth and an 8.0 on bars that put her in eighth place.

Aliyah Galan led the Xcel Silver team with a fifth-place total of 35.6 points in the Silver B group. Out of 15 gymnasts in the group, she tied for second on the floor with a 9.0, tied for fifth on the beam with a 9.0, tied for eighth on the bars with an 8.8 and tied for 10th on vault with another 8.8.

Alyssa Doriot was 14th. Her 8.9 on vault, 8.7 on floor, 8.3 on beam and 8.0 on bars added up to 33.9 points. Olivia Johnson was 15th as her 9.0 on vault, 8.6 on beam, 8.4 on floor and 7.85 on bars totaled 33.85 points. The three of them earned a team score of 103.35. They trailed Waupun (108.8), YMCA-Northwoods (107.05), Phoenix Gymnastics of Bloomer (106.45) and FlipCity of Sun Prairie (105.55).

In Level 2, Rainbow’s gymnasts scored 106.7 team points to finish ahead of Deutsch’s (106.6), Stevens Point YMCA (106.35), Northwoods (102.65) and Bay Area Gymnastics (102.55). Kroc Gymnastics of Green Bay won it with 111.5 points, just ahead of Schofield’s GymSport club (110.9).

Tenley Colby was sixth in the 2I group with an all-around score of 35.7 that included a fourth on bars (9.0), a tie for third on vault (9.3), an 8.8 on beam and an 8.6 on floor. Lillian Menitz-Coleman was 13th in the 2E group as her 9.2 on vault, 8.25 on bars, 8.1 on beam and 7.4 on floor totaled 32.55 points. Lena Schug and Tinley Hamm also competed.

Bethany Jokiel tied for 11th out of 19 gymnasts in the Xcel Gold C group with her total of 34.15 that included an 8.75 on floor, an 8.7 on vault, an 8.4 on bars and an 8.3 on beam. Mackinley Mueller added a 13th-place finish in Level 4A with a 31.85 that included scores of 8.2 on vault and floor, 8.35 on beam and 7.1 on bars.
