The Athens Distinguished Alumni Award is being reinstated in spring of this year.
Applications are available ion the Athens middle/high school office, on the Athens School District website, at Forward Bank in Athens, at the Athens Library or by e-mailing jbingham@athens1.org or lheier@athens1.org.
The application deadline is this Tuesday, March 15.
The purpose of the Athens Distinguished Alumni Award is to provide inspirational role models for students through recognition of Athens graduates, while promoting a legacy of community pride.
Athens High School graduates may be alive or presented posthumously for the Athens Distinguished Alumni Award.
COVID dashboard
Athens Public Schools reported one positive case of COVID-19 as of March 7, out of 552 staff and students.
There is one school district staff member who tested positive for COVID-19.
All students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 need to isolate at home.
One hundred and three staff and students have tested positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 31, 2021.
Adult craft
Throughout the month of March, adults can pick up a free Grab & Go craft kit from any of the nine Marathon County Public Library locations.
The kit will contain supplies for making a sar silk-wrapped bracelet. Kits are free and available while supplies last.

Book Club
The public is welcome to stop by the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch during the month of March to pick up a copy of “Once There Were Wolves” by author Charlotte McConaghy, along with discussion questions.

Senior Citizens
The Senior Citizens card group met on March 4 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Two games of Sheepshead was played. Steve Klockziem won the first game and Pat Frank took second place. Andy Hoest won the second game and Jan Lake took second place. Doc Weise received low score.
Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
