Tiger Cubs top Colby 24-0 In what was defined as the championship game, the Tiger Cubs walloped Colby 24-0 to go undefeated in conference action. Their record now stands at 5 and 0 with one non-conference game remaining.
The scoring got under way early in the first quarter when quarterback Steve Kann raced 38 yards on a keeper to make the score 6 and 0. Then in the second quarter Steve Kann fired a pass to fullback Pat Delaney in the end zone on a well executed play action pass to make the score 12-0. After having a touchdown called back because of illegal motion, the score at halftime stood at 12-0.
Again early in the third quarter an illegal motion penalty denied the Tiger Cubs of a touchdown. In the middle of the third quarter the Tiger Cubs were again on the march. This time halfback Jeff Strachota scampered 13 yards in for the score to make it 18-0. Five plays later the Cubs scored again on an 18-yard run by Steve Kann to make the score 24-0.
With the offense running well, the defense also played excellent ball with Gary Bohman, Jeff Strachota, Pat Delaney and Pete Drachenberg intercepting passes and Steve Zuelke and Dan Leonhardt leading in tackles with six each.
The team picked defensive and offensive players of the week. They are Steve Zuelke and Ken Laessig on defense and Pat Delaney, Jeff Strachota and Steve Kann on offense.
