Cadott Village Board; Board decides duplexes need to stay duplexes

By Ginna Young

Upon recommendation by the Planning and Development Committee, the Cadott Village Board approved to not allow existing duplexes be changed to twin homes, during a regular meeting Feb. 21.

“But, the ordinance will say any new homes that are built as twin homes, will be allowed,” said village clerk Sandy Buetow.

Members also approved using the pole rates set by the Handy-Whitman Index moving forward with pole contacts (attachments). Currently, there is a $15.23 fee, per pole, for when an attachment/ unit is placed on village poles.

“They will follow that (index), per year,” said Buetow.

The village is going to use a different internet provider at the park/historical society building, as approved by the board, changing from CenturyLink to Charter.

“So, we’re going to upgrade that internet service at the park,” said Buetow.

They also approved Resolution 2022-1 to designate Citizens State Bank and the State Investment Pool as the official depositories for municipal funds, as well as Resolution 2022-2 to authorize the village president to expend funds without approval from the board.

Members also didn’t have a problem granting street use for the Matt Siddons Benefit (in April) all day, the Saturday of the event, but event organizers must move the barricades Saturday night, so people can get through to the churches in the village.

Buetow also reported that, through the Board of Health, the village is dealing with a house in town that has broken windows and a hole in the house. Buetow has sent letters to have the matter addressed, but the owner never responded.

Since the issue has been ongoing since November, Buetow again contacted the owner and said repairs must be done by March 10.

The contractor who will do the repairs said they hadn’t fixed the house problems, because of the cold and because they didn’t want to have to take the windows back out to finish the updates planned.

Buetow said regardless, if they can’t complete the projects, they at least need to board up the windows and the hole.

“We kept the date for March 10, for this person to get it done,” said Buetow.
