The Cadott Chamber of Commerce decides to sponsor a Christmas lights contest, with prizes awarded for the top entries in village, business and rural categories.

20 Years Ago –1999

The Cornell Head Start lawn playground was in need of a major overhaul, after the installation of playground equipment left deep ruts and dead grass. Thanks to Mark Roou, past parent, volunteers and ag instructor Rick Erickson, work was completed.

30 Years Ago – 1989

The Christmas season is ushered in for Cadott, with the traditional community pageant, an annual event in the village since 1972, created by Eileen Rhodes. The happening is now shared between churches, while a decorated tree used to be stationed in the middle of Main Street, before moving to the bank’s property and finally, to a lawn on the main drag.

40 Years Ago – 1979

North of Pine Lake in Holcombe, 2 acres of swamp land burns, with the blaze battled by the Cornell Fire Department and the DNR. The land, owned by Herman Lugoski, was the only thing threatened and authorities are unsure how the fire started.

50 Years Ago – 1969

A public skating rink is planned for the winter months by the Cadott Lions Club, stationed at the corner of Pine Street and County Hwy. X, with the area already bulldozed by Lion Don Sperber. The club also wants to obtain permission from the school to add a rink to the school yard.

60 Years Ago – 1959

According to manager S. G. Johnson, Northwestern State Bank in Cornell, expands its hours to Friday nights, and does away with the Saturday morning hours.

100 Years Ago – 1919

New sleigh laws go into effect for the area Jan. 1, 1920, established to keep the width of runners at 4 feet, 5 inches, as a way to keep road conditions good for automobiles to run on this winter season.
