Chieftains fall to Bluejays

In an away game that included a two-hour weather delay, the Lake Holcombe football squad faced off with a tough opponent in the Athens Bluejays Sept. 2. The Chieftains got on the board first in the opening quarter, with a touchdown from senior Harley Schroeder, who also came up with the two-point conversion.
Athens struck back in the second quarter, with a touchdown of their own, but the Chieftains notched another touchdown, this time, from sophomore Ryley Craker. Craker also ran in a two-point conversion, to make the score 16-8 in favor of Lake Holcombe at the break.
The Bluejays scored again in the third quarter, holding Lake Holcombe scoreless, then came alive in the fourth quarter. Athens came up with two more touchdowns, before the Chieftains and Craker scored one of their own, but time out for Lake Holcombe. Athens again scored one final time in the fourth quarter, to take the game, 38-22.
Schroeder ended the night with 37 yards passing and 53 yards rushing, while Craker had 197 yards rushing. Junior Trent Nitek also got on the board, with 37 yards receiving.
