Cadott comes up with a Regional championship

By Ginna Young

Prior to the playoff, the Cadott softball program ended the regular season with an 8-8 overall record, finishing in the West Cloverbelt Conference, with a 7-7 record. After winning over Cornell-Lake Holcombe in the opening round of Regionals, the No. 3 seeded Hornets were the host team to No. 7 Elmwood-Plum City May 26.

During the match-up, neither team scored in three innings, but by the fourth, Cadott put a run on the board. The Wolves answered back in the fifth inning, with a run of their own to tie the game, but the Hornets wouldn’t be denied and added two more in the sixth inning, to take a 3-1 win.

The victory clinched the Regional championship for the Hornets, the first since 1984 for the program.

Senior Makenna Barone went all seven innings for the Hornets, allowing 8 hits, 1 run and a walk, but striking out 6 batters.

Leading on offense for the Hornets, was senior Olivia Goodman, with 2 hits, while junior Lauryn Goettl and freshman Rilei Weeks also had 2 hits each. Barone and junior Morgan Moldrem each added a hit for Cadott.

As the Regional champions, the Hornets will now face No. 1 Fall Creek in an away bout, to see who will reign over the WIAA Division 4 Sectionals.
