Knights take on larger schools at Bloomer meet

By Ginna Young

Competing against much larger schools, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe Knights Track squad headed to Bloomer, May 3, and made a good showing.

Bringing in the top scores for the Knights on the boys side, was junior Blake Anders, who came in second in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 56.14, and third in the triple jump (38-03.5). Junior Avery Turany followed that up in pole vault, with a fifth-place finish (10-06), while junior Dylan Bowe was just a step behind in that event (10-00).

For the girls, sophomore Emma Lechleitner placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.01). Sophomore Marcella Boehm finished in seventh in the long jump (14-09.25), with sophomore Brooke Sime coming in eighth (13.93) with the 100-meter dash.

Senior Carly Vavra entered into the top 10 in two events: triple jump (27-10.25) and the discus throw (75-04), while Lechleitner also ended in 10th in the 200-meter dash (28.95).

In the relay events, the 4x200-meter team of Turany, sopphomore Daniel Person, Bowe and Anders, took fourth, with their best time of the season. The girls 4x100-meter relay of Sime, Boehm, Lechleitner and sophomore Haily Duffy, set a new Knights record, with a time of 56.43.

“The girls placed 12th and the boys placed eighth overall as a team,” said coach Laurie Bowe.
