Medford 11, Marshfield 0

Marshfield had just one base runner, Ryan Lindeman, on a hard-hit grounder that was ruled an error to start the fifth inning against Tanner Hraby in a quick 11-0 non-conference win Thursday at Raider Field.
Hraby needed just 34 pitches to complete the five-inning no-hitter and Lindeman was cleared off the base paths on the very next pitch when Cody Donahue lined out to Brigham Kelley at first base. He simply had to step on the base to complete the easy double play.
Hraby only struck out two hitters, but he threw strikes, forcing the Tigers to put the ball in play early in the count and the defense made plays behind him. Guden, at shortstop, made a key one right off the bat, fielding a grounder by Ben Dietsche deep in the hole and throwing him out for the game’s first out. He had four assists and two putouts to account for six of Marshfield’s 15 outs. Lissner at second base also made a nice backhand play up the middle to take a potential hit away from Donahue in the second.
“Coming off a tough loss to Mosinee, I was worried about what would happen in this game,” coach Hraby said. “The boys came out right from the start and made plays. Then offensively we took advantage of what was given to us. Our defense was really good. They were a big reason we were able to go 15 up and 15 down.
“Tanner pitched well,” he added. “Mixed speeds and pounded the zone. Took advantage of a very aggressive Marshfield lineup. Pretty impressive to throw a five-inning no hitter with only 34 pitches. Again, says a lot about his defense.”
One day after getting shut out by Mosinee and one inning after stranding two runners against Marshfield starter Braxton Kurth, Medford’s offense finally awakened with an eight-run second-inning rally.
Weissmiller started it with a base hit to right and Lissner followed with a bouncer up the middle. Kelley singled to left to drive in Searles, the courtesy runner, and number-nine hitter Colby Elsner hit a bullet through the wind to deep rightfield to drive in Lissner.
“Colby Elsner provided a huge spark for our offense tonight,” coach Hraby said.
Kelley beat the throw home on Mudgett’s fielder’s choice and Hraby walked to load the bases for Guden, who hit a sacrifice fly to right. Baumgartner hit the second of his three singles pulled to the left side to drive in the fifth run. Gardner was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Weissmiller dumped a two-run single into centerfield and Lissner’s sacrifice fly to center capped the big inning.
Baumgartner hit another RBI single in the third, which was followed by Gardner’s rocket to left-center that went for a two-run double.
Baumgartner was three for three with two runs driven in and two runs scored. Weissmiller and Kelley both went two for three as Medford collected 12 hits, all against Kurth, who struck out one, walked two and hit one.

On April 27, the Raiders went hitless in nine at-bats with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners in a 2-0 loss to Mosinee at Raider Field.
Keagan Jirschele got the win with 6.1 scoreless innings, working out of multirunner jams in the first, fifth and sixth innings. He struck out seven, walked four and allowed just two hits.
After Jirschele reached his 100-pitch limit, reliever Trevor Garski flirted with danger in the bottom of the seventh, hitting Tanner Hraby and allowing a single to Guden with one out and both runners wound up advancing a base. But Garski got Baumgartner to hit a one-hop rocket to third baseman Tanner Unertl for out number two and then he retired Weissmiller on a grounder to first baseman Davin Stoffel to complete the shutout.
Baumgartner pitched just as well and took an undeserved loss. He needed just 84 pitches to throw all seven innings. He gave up six hits, struck out three, walked two and just one of Mosinee’s runs was earned.
The Indians got their runs in the last two innings. In the sixth, Gavin Obremski lined a one-out single to right and Unertl reached on an error on what could have been a double-play ball. Taylor Lemanski grounded into a forceout at third to give the Raiders a chance to get out of the jam, but Garski dumped a single into left-center to score courtesy runner Trenton Dorn, though Lemanski was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay throw from Tanner Hraby while also trying to score on the hit.
Mosinee loaded the bases with one out in the seventh on a walk to Garrett Shupe, an Eli Miland double and an intentional walk to Jirschele. Drake Grod’s sacrifice fly to right scored Shupe.
Medford loaded the bases with one out in the first, but Jirschele struck out Weissmiller and got Lissner to ground into a fielder’s choice. He struck out Baumgartner with two on and two down in the fifth. In the sixth, he struck out Max Dietzman with two on and two out. Lissner, Guden and Gardner, who doubled in the fourth, had Medford’s three hits.

Prior to the April 27 game with Mosinee, Medford head baseball coach Justin Hraby accepts a $1,200 donation from Joe and Kole Hartwig to Medford’s baseball program, which comes from the Aaron Hartwig Memorial Fund.MATT FREY/THE STAR NEWS
