Loyal, Granton track and field teams compete at Black River Falls Invitational

With numerous top eight placings at Black River Falls, the Loyal girls track and field team finished in first place again as a team at the Hoffman Invitational held on April 26. Five individuals and three relay teams took first place for the lady Greyhounds at the invite, giving them a solid victory over the 12 other teams at the meet.

Four relay teams participated in the meet at Black River Falls, three of which took first. Leah Scherer, Shalisha Buchanan, Hannah Smith and Haven Peroshek ran the 4x100m relay, winning the race with their time of 52.97. Molly Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Haven Peroshek and Alyssia Zvolena ran the 4x200m relay in 1:57.55 for their win and Abrial Kubista, Noelle Teschner, Lisa Steffens and Sheila Tellock ran the 4x400m relay in 4:34.19 to win that event. Molly Zvolena, Hannah Strey, Noelle Teschner and Maci Bogdonovich ran the 4x800m relay, finishing in fourth place with their time of 12:30.

Individual results for the Loyal girls are as follows: Leah Scherer, 1st, 200m dash, 28.55, 3rd, long jump, 13’7.75”, 6th, 400m dash, 1:08.34; Lisa Steffens, 1st, 400m dash, 1:05.56, 1st, long jump, 14’1”; Sheila Tellock, 1st, pole vault, 8’6”; Alyssia Zvolena, 1st, high jump, 5’1”, 3rd, 100m dash, 13.98; Abrial Kubista, 1st, triple jump, 34’2”, 2nd, 300m hurdles, 53.58, 7th, 100m hurdles, 19.82; Aubre Robida, 2nd, 100m dash, 13.64, 2nd, 200m dash, 28.57; Shalisha Buchanan, 4th, discus, 81’2.25”, 4th, shot put, 30’11.5”; Molly Zvolena, 4th, triple jump, 29’2.5”; Maci Bogdonovich, 5th, 800m run, 2:54.78; Emma Clausen Skjong, 5th, 100m hurdles, 19.74; Autumn Zvolena, 5th, 300m hurdles, 56.90; Carlotta Sartorazzi, 5th, pole vault, 7’6”; Olivia Nikolai, 5th, pole vault, 7’6”; Haven Peroshek, 8th, shot put, 28’8”; Hope Peroshek, 8th, discus, 76’10”.

The Loyal boys had only two individuals place in the top eight at the invite. Connor Genteman placed in three events, taking second in both the 800m run (2:15.12) and in the 1600m run (5:01) while also finishing fourth in the 3200m run. Parker Smith also finished in the top eight, taking fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 33’7”.

The Granton track team also competed at the Black River Falls invite, but did not have many competitors finish in the top eight to score points for the team. Anna Kayhart placed in two events, running a 15:49.63 in the 3200m run to take 5th and finishing the 1600m run in 7:27 flat to place sixth. Lizzy Reinart also scored for the girls, taking seventh in the high jump by reaching a height of 4’4”. For the boys, Granton had lone runner Alex Gardner place, taking fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 57.59.

As a team, the Loyal girls earned 171 points to soundly win the invite. Also competing at Black River Falls were Westby (111), Tomah (77), Sparta (63), Black River Falls (60), Auburndale (52.5), Neillsville (43), Melrose-Mindoro (43), Royall (39), Alma Center Lincoln (15), La Crosse Logan (12) and Granton, which scored 7.5 points to take 12th.

For the boys, Loyal took eighth with 25 points and Granton finished in 11th with four points. Black River Falls won the boys contest with 109.5 points followed by Auburndale in second (109) and Neillsville in third (105).
