Covid dashboard

Marathon Public School reported on April 5 that it had one case of COVID-19 out of 850 staff and students as of April 5. The school has had 175 cases of the coronavirus during the 2021-22 school year.

School dance

The Marathon Area Elementary School and Marathon Venture Academy PTO will host a Daddy and Daughter Dance on Saturday, April 30, in the school gymnasium from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. DJ for the event will be Outer Limits.

Grandfathers, uncles or other adults are welcome at the dance.

Summer school

Parents are invited to enroll their children at Marathon Public School summer school through Friday, April 15.

There will be two sessions of summer school. The first session will run Monday, June 13, through Thursday, June 30, 8 a.m. through 12 p.m. The second session will be Monday, July 11, through Thursday, July 28, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

All students in grades 4K through third grade will have a choice of one four hour class where they will have instruction in movement, art and music.

Students in grades four through seven will sign up for two classes, one from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a second one from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Otherwise, students can take a four hour athletics course.

Students who choose a DNR safety course must be committed to all of the days. Students will need to be present for all hours of the course or they will not receive a certificate. If a student plans on taking less than the three offered courses they can sign up for another class during that time slot for the remaining week(s). To sign up, parents will need their child’s DNR Customer ID number to complete the registration. If your child does not have a Customer ID number you can obtain one online through https://dnr.wisconsin. gov/GoWild/customerNumber.html or by calling 1-888-936-7463.

There is a charge for DNR safety courses.

Garage sales

Marathon City community garage sales will be held Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29. For more information, contact garage sales organizer Carol Salber at 715-581-4444 or go to carol.salber@ yahoo.com.

Easter egg hunt

The Marathon City Police Department and Marathon Fire Department will host an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Spirituality Center, Marathon City.

The hunt will take place at the Marathon Fire Station in the event of inclement weather.


Marathon FBLA at stateMarathon High School Future Business Leaders of America had 49 members compete at a recent state conference in Madison. Fourteen members placed in the top eight overall and seven of those qualified for the national conference to be held in Chicago this summer. Those who qualified for nationals include Andy Glennon, fourth place, Introduction to Business Procedures; Alex Kraimer, fourth place, Job Interview; Alyssa Hall, Mckenna Haehlke and Alex Kraimer, fourth place, Community Service Project; Mallory Ninabuck, third place, Computer Applications; Brandon Gitzlaff, state champion in Introduction to Business Concepts; and Noah Fritz, state champion in Help Desk. Other top eight finishers include: Julianna Thurs, Vanessa Krueger, McKinnley Marks, Owen Marks, Elizabeth Dzwonkowski, Alyssa Hall, Chloe LaValley and Bridget Salber.
