Athens Acres 4-H Club will hold its annual Easter egg hunt this Saturday, April 16, at 1 p.m. in Memorial Park.

Children should bring their own basket or bag to collect their eggs in the park. Children can get their pictures taken with the Easter bunny and there will also be children’s games in the park.

Basket drawings are at 1:30 p.m. and children must be present to win them.

School open house

St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School in Athens is inviting any preKindergarten students to an open house on Friday, April 22, from 8-11 a.m.

Parents can call the school at 715-257-7541 for any further information they need regarding the open house.

Piggy bank project

Forward Bank in Athens is encouraging children ages 12 and under to learn about saving money and the environment while participating in the annual Piggy Bank Project.

Children are challenged to create a piggy bank out of recyclable or found materials in their home.

Families can drop off the piggy bank creations at Forward Bank in Athens by this Friday, April 15, to be entered. A Forward Bank employee will take a photo of the child and their creation to be uploaded to a Facebook album.

The community will vote on the most creative piggy bank from Thursday, April 21 through Monday, April 25. Participants may pick up their creations the following week.

Distinguished alumni

The Athens Distinguished Alumni program will be held on Sunday, May 1, at noon in the high school commons. The program is open to the public.

A reception will be held at 11:30 a.m. prior to the program at noon.

Senior Citizens

The Senior Citizens card group met on April 7 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Two games of Sheepshead was played. Steve Klockziem won the first game and Andy Hoest took second place. Pat Frank won the second game and David Perrodin placed second. Jan Lake received low score.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.

Rockin’ Redemption

Athens Assembly of God will hold a free spring edition of Rockin’ Redemption gospel music on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. inside the church.

COVID dashboard

Athens Public Schools reported zero positive cases of COVID-19 as of April 12, out of 552 staff and students.

One hundred and three staff and students have tested positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 31, 2021.

April Book Club

The public is welcome to stop by the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch during the month of April to pick up a copy of “Confessions of a Domestic Failure” by author Bunni Laditan, along with discussion questions.
