The Cornell-Gilman Wolfpack saw success over the week’s matches, watching two of their wrestlers place the highest they have this year.

Jan. 6 Cameron Triad

The Wolfpack saw their first match at Cameron against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser-Prairie Farm, with the Wolfpack sweeping that round. Freshman Preston Fredrickson (126 pounds) won over Brayden Mohr, by a 1:59 fall. Junior Braeden Person (145) came up with his win over Alexander Campbell, by a 4-0 decision.

Junior Troy Duellman (152) got the fall over Clayton Cecka, in 3:34.

“The competition was a bit stiffer against Cameron,” said coach Greg Sonnentag.

Duellman then battled a three-time State champion in Tanner Gerber, “hanging in there,” but seeing the match go Gerber’s way, with a 15-5 major decision. Person moved up a weight class to 152, dropping his match against Tommy Quinn, in a 1:39 fall.

“The match of the night, may have been when Preston Fredrickson (wrestling Zach Zappa) pulled off a cradle with less that 10 seconds left, to earn a (4-2) decision,” said Sonnentag.

Jan. 8 vs. Cadott Invitational

Finishing up the week, the Wolfpack traveled to Cadott, for an invitational tournament.

“Overall, I thought the boys wrestled really well,” said Sonnentag.

Duellman claimed the first place spot in his weight class, by defeating Tommy Tomesh, Regis-Altoona, in a 12-5 decision. Fredrickson also placed high in fourth, dropping his match to injury forfeit to Hayward’s Noah Christianson, in 2:55.

Person moved up weight classes (152), coming in seventh over Carter Sacia (Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau), with a 4-0 decision.

“There’s still much to work on, but this was a good start to the second half of the season,” said Sonnentag.
