Local candidates on ballot for April
Candidates for county board, local school board and village board have filed paperwork to be on the ballot for the upcoming April 5 election. A primary has been scheduled for Feb. 15.
School boards
There will be a three-way race for a single open seat on the Marathon Board of Education. Candidates that have filed election nomination papers include Ted Knoeck, the incumbent, and challengers Morgan Dodson and Joshua Baeseman. There will be a primary.
Athens school board incumbent Ken Ellenbecker will seek re-election but incumbent Tamey Zenner will not. There are two open seats on the school board.
Edgar School District superintendent Dr. Cari Guden saiid there are four candidates for four open school board seats. They are incumbents Gary Lewis, Rebecca Normington and Pam Stahel plus non-incumbent Megan Wesolowski. Guden announced that the legal deadline for filing candidacy for Edgar school board has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7.
Stratford school board member Kitty Guyer is running for re-election without opposition.
Village boards
Two candidates have filed paperwork to be on the ballot for three open seats on the Marathon City Village Board. Those candidates are incumbent Keith Paul and Barb Parlier.
A second incumbent, Jeff Lawrence, failed to file election paperwork by the legal dead- line, according to village administrator Andy Kurtz, but he is expected to be a registered write-in candidate.
Incumbent Jessica McCain did not file a declaration of non-candidacy and did not submit paperwork to run for a new term.
Kurtz said that neither Parlier or her husband, Dan, may serve as election workers during elections where Mrs. Parlier is on the ballot. Otherwise, he said, she can hold village office and serve as an election worker.
In Athens, incumbents Tami Schreiner and Chris Perkins have filed to be on the ballot for re-election as trustee. Incumbent Jessica McCord is not running for re-election.
Stratford Village Board incumbents Katie Marten, Dale Heil and Kevin Spaeth are running foir new terms without opposition.
The Village of Edgar will select candidates for village trustee at a caucus to be held on Jan. 10. Trustees up for a new term are Mike Butt, Jeremy Apfelbeck and Cathy Schueller.
County board
Eighteen of 38 Marathon County supervisors will face opposition in the April election. The contests will be between: District 1: Incumbent Michelle Van Krey, Wausau, and Christopher Wood, Wausau.
District 6: Incumbent Jeff Johnson, Wausau, and Stacey Morache, Wausau.
District 7: Incumbent Becky Buch, Wausau, and Alex Eichter, Wausau.
District 8: Kim Ungerer, Wausau, and Veronica Hope, Wausau.
District 9: Incumbent David Oberbeck, Wausau, and Johnny Fortenberry, Wausau.
District 11: Incumbent Alyson Leahy, Wausau, and Randy DeBroux, Wausau.
District 13: James Juedes, Ringle, and Mike Ritter, Ringle.
District 15: Incumbent Randy Fifrick, Kronenwetter, and Joel Straub, Kronenwetter.
District 16: Incumbent Bill Conway, Schofield, and Tony Sherfinski, Schofield.
District 17: Incumbent Jennifer Aarrestad, Rothschild, and Cheryl Martino, Rothschild.
District 21: Incumbent Thomas Rosenberg, Weston, and Dave Dailey, Weston.
District 22: Mark Mahoney, Weston, and Jasper Hartinger, Schofield.
District 23: Incumbent Chris Voll, Kronenwetter, and David Baker, Kronenwetter.
District 25: Sandi Cihlar, Mosinee, and Timothy Sondelski, Mosinee.
District 30: Richard Gumz, Dorchester, and Andrew Venzke, Abbotsford.
District 33: Incumbent Tim Buttke, Wausau, and Ron Covelli, Wausau.
District 34: Incumbent Gary Beastrom, Athens, and Jason Wilhelm, Athens.
District 38: Incumbent Jonathon Fischer, Wausau, and Bobby Niemeyer, Wausau.

Delayed deadline
On Wednesday, Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood announced that incumbents Brent Jacobson (District 24) and Jennifer Bizzotto (District 2) had not either filed non-candidacy papers or filed to be on the spring ballot. The deadline for declaring a candidacy in those districts has been extended to Friday, Jan. 7.
Candidate Destiny Goretski, Wausau, has submitted papers to run for the District 2 supervisor’s seat.
