By Ginna Young

The Hornets wrestlers were back in action Dec. 18, at the Tomahawk Invitational, with Cadott winning both their duals in the event.

Going up against Weyauwega-Fremont, senior Gavin Tegels (220 pounds) won over over Vanden Hoffman by fall in 1:58, while junior Brayden Sonnentag (132) took the victory over Kaleb Mannel, with a 1-0 decision.

Junior Nick Fasbender (138) came up with a win over Aiden Marquette by a 1:06 fall, followed by the win from senior Kaleb Sonnentag (145) over Alex Loehrke by fall in 0:58. Junior Tristan Drier (152) also won over Carter Mc-Daniel by a 19-4 technical fall.

Also coming up with a win, was junior Cole Pfeiffer (160), who won over Caden Meisenhelder by fall in 3:36. Junior Dawson Webster (170) took the win over Tellyer Alix by fall in 2:27. Freshmen Kaleb Lodahl (106) and Brock Nesvacil (113), and sophomore Lukas Simenson (120) all won by forfeit.

With the many wins, Cadott earned a 62-18 victory over Weyauwega-Fremont.

“We learned that we can win as a team, but we also have work to do,” said coach Josh Spaeth.

Next up, was Tomahawk, where Lodahl won over Jack Derleth by fall in 3:56, and Sonnentag took the win over Blake Felser by a 1:13 fall. Fasbender won over Ryan Larson by fall in 1:58, while Drier won over Brayden Jones by fall in 1:05.

Pfeiffer took the victory over Mason Evans by a 12-10 decision and sophomore Axel Tegels (195) got the win over Ethan Trayes by fall in 3:01. Sonnentag and G. Tegels each received forfeit wins.

“Gavin Tegels had a great weekend, by beating two highly ranked wrestlers,” said Spaeth. “Cole Pfeiffer had an exciting come-from-behind win against a highly ranked Tomahawk opponent. Nick Fasebender also had a great weekend, going 2-0, with two pins. Axel Tegels needed to win at 195 against Tomahawk and he did with a pin.”

The wins put the Hornets ahead enough to take the dual over Tomahawk, 45-34.

“I am proud of this team, and their continued effort to improve each and every week,” said Spaeth.
