Success continues in the water for Trident swimmers

The Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team stayed at home again this week, hosting the Mosinee swim team Sept. 16. The Tridents bounced back from a tough loss against Medford, the week prior, with a 108-53 victory.

The Trident girls opened the meet, taking first and third place in the 200-yard medley relay, claiming an early 10-4 lead. Junior Madeline Bunton, and freshmen Lauren Hanson and Alaina Meskill were next in the water, to take first, third and fourth places respectively, and extend the lead.

“All three girls turned in season best times, with Lauren Hanson taking nearly 40 seconds off her time from earlier this season,” said coach Matt Bunton.

Juniors Sanaa Trott and Michelle Gaddy, and freshman Aly Lunemann then claimed first through third place in the 200-yard individual medley, with all three showing significant time improvement. In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Madilyn Kempen hit the wall first, with a time of 28.36, followed closely by junior teammates Sadie Heath and Macy Kennedy coming in second and fifth.

After the break, senior Brooke Lechleitner and Kempen combined, to take first and second in the 100-yard butterfly, with times of 1:05.03 and 1:08.30, a personal best for Kempen. In the 100-yard freestyle, Madeline, Meskill and Kennedy brought in first, second and fourth places, to extend the lead.

“It’s great to see time improvements, but there is still a lot of work to do,” said Matt. “The girls are really working hard in practice and doing what they need to do to ensure continued success this season.”

The 500-yard reestyle featured Gaddy posting a time of 6:32.34, another personal best time. Hanson and freshman Kayleen Powell took third and fourth places in this race, showing that they are improving every week. Lunemann was the next to claim a first place win, with her time of 1:17.33 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Powell and sophomore Izzy Mitchell each scored points in the backstroke, as well as taking, fourth and fifth places, and posting personal best swims. Lechleitner and Trott then claimed the first and third places in the 100-yard breaststroke, with times of 1:17.32 and 1:24.03, while Lechleitner earned a personal best time in the event.

The Tridents then wrapped up the meet with first and third place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team now sits at 3-1 on the season.

“The girls had a great meet tonight posting good times,” said Matt, “having good swims and getting to swim events that they typically don’t get a chance to swim at other times in their season.”
