Sept. 9 vs. Birchwood conference (W 3-2)
The Chiefs started strong in the first set of the away game against Birchwood, 25-13, but then had a setback from multiple hitting and serving errors in the second set that they couldn’t recover from. Birchwood took that set, 25-23.
“Birchwood was putting up a tough block as well,” said coach Amy Lorenzen. “The errors came from the ladies trying to serve and hit aggressively, and eventually, more of those will go our way.
The third match went to Cornell, 25-14, but Birchwood wasn’t finished and took the fourth set, 25-21. The Chiefs were determined to bring home the win and ended the final set, 15-6.
“Teaira Spaeth closed out that fifth set with a strong serving run,” said Lorenzen.
During the match, junior Michayla Turchen had 10 kills and 4 aces, while senior Jayda Turchen came up with 6 kills and 5 aces. The senior Spaeth ended with 13 assists and 5 aces.
“It’s still early in the season and they are trying to find their rhythm on the court,” said Lorenzen.
