Getting back in the pool, the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team made a splash at several opening events.
Aug. 19 vs. Merrill Invitational
The Tridents first traveled to Merrill, to begin the swimming season, for an annual outdoor relay meet.
“The girls enjoyed warm temperatures and plenty of sun for this fun, first meet,” said coach Matt Bunton.
The girls’ next trip was to Colby, for a pentathlon meet, which gives all swimmers a chance to swim a quick 50 yards in each of the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly), as well as a 100yard individual medley.
“We lost a lot of talented swimmers this past year, graduating out five very talented seniors, but I’m excited where we are as a team, considering our youth,” said Bunton.
Aug. 30 vs. Black River Falls Invitational
Their final meet was at Black River Falls, where the girls outscored their opponents 93-75, to claim their first dual meet victory.
“In addition, the girls also completed their 24-hour relay fundraiser, with each girl rotating half-hour shifts, swimming in the pool over the 24 hours,” said Bunton. “Together, the girls swam a total of 40 miles and raised money for their team activities this season.”
Bunton says they have a lot to work on, regarding technique and fitness, but that the girls are committed to doing their best for themselves and the team.
“Over the last few weeks, they’ve struck great friendships and have started to come together as a team,” he said.
