Caleb Mueller, Edgar, a mechanical engineering student, has been named to the UWPlatteville dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester. In the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science at UWPlatteville, students need a 3.5 GPA to receive the honor.
Northcentral Technical College, Wausau, has named Edgar students named to the President’s List for outstanding academic achievement for the fall 2020 term. They are Mikaela Christianson, Sara Farber, Whitney Guenther, Shawna Moen, Jean Mueller, Kassidy Myszka, Jett Shepro and Melinda Urmanski. To qualify for the list, students must earn a 3.75 GPA or above and successfully complete at least six credits.
UW-Oshkosh has named Edgar students who have qualifi ed for the dean’s list and honor roll for the fall 2020 semester. The GPA requirement for the honor roll is 3.3; the GPA requirement for the dean’s list is 3.75 out of a possible 4.0. The students are Olivia Baumann, a junior, dean’s list; Kendra Kramer, a senior, dean’s list; and Seth Schilling, a senior, honor roll.
Child screening
Edgar School District will screen all district children birth through age. 4. This screening will help identify children who may be in need of some type of assistance prior to entering school. All three-year-olds are encouraged to be screened and four- year-olds who plan to attend four- year-old kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year should definitely be screened.
Screening dates are Wednesday, March 10, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 11, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Birth through age two screening will take approximately 30 minutes. The screening will include observations of early developmental skills and tasks and the completion of a health and developmental history.
The three and four year old screening will take approximately 45 minutes. This will include the areas of health and developmental history, readiness concepts, motor skills, and speech/language development.
Information letters will be sent out in mid-February to all parents of children ages three and four. If you do not receive a letter, or if you know of someone new to the district, or have any questions, call the elementary offi ce at (715) 351-2727 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Boys baseball
Registration for boys baseball summer programs offered to Edgar students has started and will extend through Wednesday, Feb. 24. Summer baseball will be available to Edgar boys in grades PreK through eight in 2020-21. Practices will start in late May with games scheduled for June and July. The expectation is that age groups will be split into these groupings: grades 7-9, Bronco League; grades 5-6, Pony League; grades 3-4, Little League; grades 1-2, Minor League, grades PreK-K, T-Ball League. The Bronco league team will play in a league with regular home and away games. The Pony League and Little League team(s) will play games in a traveling league. The Minor League and T-Ball teams will have practices/scrimmages in Edgar. Once all registrations are received and schedules with the surrounding communities have been determined, game/practice schedules as well as any additional information will be provided.
League fees will be used to pay for league entry fees, umpires, jerseys, hats, equipment, and Edgar Softball Complex improvements. Those costs can be decreased or avoided through our various volunteer opportunities.

Woodland Waddle
The Edgar Area Trail Supporters will sponsor a Scotch Creek Woodland Waddle five kilometer snowshoe race and walk on Sunday, Feb. 21, with a start at the Edgar High School baseball diamond.
The race course travels over cross country ski and single track trails in the gently hilly Scotch Creek Woodland Preserve in Edgar.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, this year’s race will not have a mass start. Participants can start at any time between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Awards will be mailed to the top three finishers among overall male and female winners. EATS will post division winners in various age groups: 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.
Edgar Public Schools will not be open this year for warming or bathroom use. It is recommended participants use a bathroom at a local gas station before the event, if needed.

Booster Club
The Edgar Softball Booster Club will hold a meeting on Sunday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at the Edgar Village Hall. The club will discuss plans for the upcoming youth fastpitch summer softball league as well as other topics. For more information, contact Kristina Apfelbeck at 715-551-3080
COVID dashboard
Edgar Public Schools reported on Feb. 11 that it has one active case of COVID-19 out of a total of 668 staff and students. A total of 77 staff and students have had COVID-19 this school year.
Free for all
Edgar School District continues to offer free lunches and breakfasts for all students in grades 4K-12. The free lunches and breakfast will be offered through June 30.
Breakfast and lunches can be picked up for students who either are learning virtually or who are under quarantine.
LENA
The Edgar Branch Public Library will sponsor LENA training to improve verbal interactions between parents and children on Monday, Feb. 22, 8-9 p.m. over the Zoom platform. Contact the library to register for the program.
Bauble magnets
Stop by the Edgar Branch Public Library in February and pick up a kit to make your own colorful bauble magnet craft at home.
The library will provide patrons with instructions and most of the supplies. Patrons will need to supply glue. This is a fun craft that makes a great little decoration for just about any spot.
There is a limit one kit per person, available by appointment at the library. The library’s phone number is 715-352-3155.
Solar system
Children can create their own solar system and their tiny little corner of it with a fun grab-and-go kit at the Edgar Branch Public Library.
Children can make their own solar system and also learn about each of the eight planets orbiting the sun.
This kit is free with all supplies provided except for scissors and glue (and extra planets if you want to add them.) The kit is available by appointment and while supplies last. Call the Edgar library at 715-352-3155 for more information.
Community response
Edgar Edgar Schools has received a $5,000 grant from the COVID-19 Community Response Fund to help families with basic supplies, including paper products, laundry products, hygiene, cleaning supplies, feminine hygiene.

ATV safety
The Village of Edgar has reminded residents of safety rules for ATV operators travelling on village streets.
_ No person under 12 years of age may operate an ATV for any reason.
_ All ATV safety certified operators age 12-15 must also be accompanied by an adult except for operation for agricultural purposes with adult supervision.
_ All ATV operators and passengers under the age of 18 are required to wear a minimum DOT standard ATV or motorcycle helmet with the chin strap properly fastened.
