The Edgar School District counseling department has partnered with Tricia Gumz, a psychotherapist from Peaceful Solutions, to host a virtual presentation on “Stress Management.” The presentation will take place virtually on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, from 6-7 p.m. This presentation will cover the signs and symptoms of stress overload, treatment options and strategies to help cope.
This presentation will provide parents and community members with knowledge and resources to use during these challenging times.

Garden course
Marathon County Extension horticulture educator Janell Wehr will teach a twosession class on garden planning over the internet.
In this interactive web class, Wehr will explain the required site considerations for gardens, as well as steps needed to create a planting plan. Wehr will cover which crops and cultivars are best suited for Wisconsin gardens, how to choose crops that are cost effective and how to determine the best time to plant.
There is no cost to attend this program, but registration is required.
The first course will be broadcast Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, 2-3 p.m. and repeated on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, 7-8 p.m.
Virtual Book Club
The Marathon County Public Library Virtual Book Club will discuss” Nine Perfect Strangers” by Liane Moriarty on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 1-2 p.m. The discussion will be held on the GoToMeeting platform.
Home and School
St. John’s Home and School, Edgar, will hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at 6 p.m.
Feeding families
The Edgar Public School kitchen staff will hold its fifth annual food drive to feed families in the Edgar community.
Students are encouraged to bring food items and place them in a box in the school cafeteria. Highly recommended donations include cereal, Pop-Tarts, oatmeal, after school snacks, granola bars, crackers, dinner items, Manwich, spaghetti sauce and noodles.
The Edgar Public School kitchen staff plan to assemble a dozen food baskets for local families. The staff will donate turkey roasts to families in need.
Book babies
The Marathon County Public Library is currently taking registration for Book Babies that will be offered every Monday morning starting in January 2021. The program offers stories and more for little ones under age two and time for parents and caregivers to socialize.
Unlike the virtual story times, Book Babies will be conducted through GoTo-Meeting and will be interactive. Songs and rhymes will be geared towards little ones under the age of two with a caregiver. Leaders will read books, sing nursery rhymes, and more for about 20 minutes. Afterward, there will be time for caregivers and babies to see and speak with each other.
