Bernice Poulda Krizan


1940-2024 Bernice Poulda Krizan, 83 of Stanley, formerly of Gilman, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at the Homeplace-Stanley. She was born on Nov. 3, 1940 in Downers Grove, Illinois to the late Michael and Cecilia (Schaefer) Olejnichak. Her family moved to the Gilman area when she was a young girl and she graduated from Gilman High School in 1958. She married Edgar Poulda on May 21, 1960. He died suddenly in 1970. Bernie later married Paul Krizan on June 29, 1998. Paul passed away in 2011. Bernie worked at the Drangles Cheese factory, had Bernie’s Liquor and Bait store, worked for Romig’s, and later at Zastrow’s Care Center. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and being with her family. She is survived by her two sons, Edgar (Tari) Poulda of Cadott and Michael (Kim) Poulda of Medford; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jake) Wik, Emily (Chayne) Bourget, Julianna Poulda and Edgar Poulda, III; and six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, Jerry (Pat) Olejnichak of Medford. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands; her daughter, Susan; a sister, Juliana and brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Sylvia Olejnichak. A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Burial followed in Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery- Gilman. Visitation was one hour prior to mass Monday at the church. Plombon Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements. 1989-2024 Tyler Bradley Justice, 34, of Dorchester, born Sept. 29, 1989, to Bradley and Kristin Justice, passed away Jan. 29, 2024. He will be missed greatly by many. Tyler grew up in Stetsonville, with his loving family. He found his niche working at Purina in Spencer, working in industrial maintenance. Tyler’s main passions were hunting alongside his father, fishing, spending time with family, friends, his lifelong partner, CiJi, and their fur babies, Spartacus and Groot. Tyler had the best smile, was kind, and compassionate in helping others in any way that he could. Tyler met the love of his life, CiJi Becker in 2012. Together, with Spartacus, Groot, family, and friends, they built a life filled with beautiful, loving memories. Tyler is survived by his parents, Kris and Brad Justice; sisters, Katie (Steve) Voss, and Mallory (Steve) Justice; girlfriend, CiJi Becker; mother-in-law, Dawn Zettler; father-in-law, Bernard Becker; grandmotherin- law, Evangeline Becker; brothers-in-law, Mitch and John (Amie) Becker; nephews, Everett and Samuel Voss, Wyatt and Daxon Becker; nieces, Demi, Avah and Lydia Becker; and God-daughter Amiyah Duerr. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, as well as other family and friends. Services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. Randal “Randy” W. Butler, 68, of the township of Hammel, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024 at his home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Randy was born on Oct. 14, 1955 to Wilfred and Caroline (Higgins) Butler in Medford. He attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1974. After school he worked at Weather Shield for a period of time. He then went into trucking where he worked for Beacon, Timberline, and most recently, Mike Williams. He retired in 2011. Randy enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, watching 1955-2024 the Packers and Badgers, and spending time with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He was a sponge of knowledge and enjoyed sharing everything he learned with his nieces and nephews. Randy is survived by his siblings, Patricia (LeRoy) Zittlow of Medford, Donna Hippe of Dorchester, Karen (Kevin) Moberg, Rebecca (Brad) Kalmon, Holly Butler, and Clinton (Debra) Butler, all of Medford; brother-inlaw, Floyd Jeans of Milwaukee; his dogs, Henry, Hazel, Alove, and Ruby Rose. Randy is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Randy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pamela Jeans; and brother-in-law, Robert Hippe. Kenneth “Ken” L. Carlsen, 83, of Sheldon, passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 at the Homeplace of Dorchester, under the care of Hope Hospice. A celebration of life will take place at Hemer Pickerign Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Ken was born on July 31, 1940 to Thorvald and Genevieve (Braun) Carlsen in Stanley. He attended Withee schools and graduated from Taylor County Teachers College. He married Carole Blazer on Jan. 16, 1965 in Withee. He was a teacher in the Flambeau School District for 40 years. He was also on the Sheldon Fire Department for 50 1940-2024 years and taught hunter safety for 40 years. When he wasn’t teaching he enjoyed his time in the woods hunting, walking, making firewood, and logging. Ken is survived by his three sons, Mark (Beverley) Carlsen and Mike (Becky Miller) Carlsen, both of Sheldon, and Kevin (Julie) Carlsen of Medford; grandchildren, Celsey (Noah) Weiss, Cole (Rachel Turner) Carlsen, Cordel (Holly) Carlsen, Cody Schutts, Brayden Carlsen, Finley Carlsen, and Hank Carlsen; and four great-grandchildren. Thomas W. “Radar” Nelson, 81, of Medford, died Jan. 26, 2024, at the Colby Senior Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Holway with Barb Krug officiating. Burial will follow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery with military honors provided by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and may go to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or to St. Croix Hospice. Tom was born May 18, 1942 in Medford to Orville and Evamae Nelson. He graduated from Medford High School. He served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1968 when he was honorably discharged. He worked many jobs in his younger life before settling on his love of driving truck. He retired from Weather Shield after 32 years, but continued to drive part-time until health reasons forced him to stop three years ago. Until his full retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, playing in his gravel pit, and socializing with friends. Tom married Nancy Prell in 1966 and together they had four children, Tammy (Mark) Jensen of Medford, Julie Gotham of Blaine, MN, Cory (Robin) Nelson of Rosholt, and Susan (Tim) Vaughn of Eau Claire. Tom and Nancy later divorced. On July 21, 2000 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Tom married Hazel Newburry (Story). She passed in 2016. Tom is further survived by 13 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids. Also surviving are his sisters, Lou (Tom) Schroeder of Black Hawk, S.D., Peggie (Rick) Nelson of Nicholasville, Ky., Patricia Temple of Hartford; stepchildren, Dennis Newburry of Eau Claire, Steven Newburry of Baraboo; sisters-in-law, Carol Story of Lynnwood, Wash., Addie Mae (Dean) Thorkelson of Lynnwood, Wash., Debbie (Bruce) Kujawa of Eau Claire, Jeanie Story of Altoona, Peggie (Chuck) Warner of Chippewa Falls; and brother-in-law, Dorvin (Marilyn) Story of Sheldon. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; step daughter, Tina Newburry; brothers-in-law, Darrell, Duane, and Pete Story; sisters-in-law, Ellen Hoeck, Marie Story, and Gladys Wiacek. Cleo Nikolay

1932-2024 Cleo Nikolay, formerly of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2024 at Oak Park Place in Madison, at the age of 91. Cleo was born Cleo Mae Studinger in Medford, on April 26, 1932, to Mae (Liberty) Studinger and Arthur Studinger, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Medford High School in 1950. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Jim Nikolay in Medford, and thereafter resided in Abbotsford until relocating to Madison in 2017. She worked as a secretary at Wisco Milling in Abbotsford and also served as Abbotsford City Clerk for a number of years. Cleo worked side-by-side with Jim for decades to operate the Abbotsford City Baseball team. She also did financial recordkeeping for the Abbotsford Ambulance Service for many years. Cleo was active in St. Bernard’s Catholic Parish. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, watching sporting events, gathering the family for holidays, and especially spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Susan (Tom) Bogaard of Bayfield, Lynn (Mark) Scotch of Plover, Steve Nikolay of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; Bob (Nancy) Nikolay of Sun Prairie, Joan Nikolay of Mankato, Minn., and Matt (Stacey) Nikolay of Holmen; her grandchildren, Chris (Helen) Scotch, Kurt (Erica) Bogaard, Nick (Traci) Scotch, Jon (Courtney) Bogaard, David (Abby) Scotch, Abby (Andy) Vosters, James (Mackenzie) Nikolay, Kyle Nikolay, Connor Nikolay, Sam Nikolay, and Grace Nikolay. Cleo also had 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Jim in March of 2019; daughter-in-law, Tracy Schmidt, in 2019; and grandson, Jason Scotch, in 1976; as well as her parents; her brothers, Larry, John, Robert, and Richard; her sisters, Virginia Armbrust and Leah Studinger; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Visitation will be Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford and interment will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery. David Gordon Rodencal


Almighty God, who foreknew him before the creation of the heavens and the earth, place David Gordon Rodencal, born of Christian parents, on this earth on the 11th day of Dec., 1956. He was born again by Holy Baptism on the 30th day of Dec., 1956, and received the forgiveness of sins and membership into God’s family. He was kept in the faith by the Word and Sacraments by faithful servants of the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod. It pleased the LORD to take David’s soul home on Jan. 20, 2024 to wait with the souls of all the other believers, where they wait for the Day of Judgement to be reunited with their bodies and stand in the presence of God forever. 1956-2024 A Memorial Service for David will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kenneth Bittorf officiating.
