Edith Emon Edith “Edie” C. Emon, 72, Edgar, went to be with her Father in heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born April 8, 1947, in Wausau, daughter of the late Reinhold and Flossie (Bacon) Burk. On Aug. 28, 1993, she married Arlan Emon in Wausau. He survives. Edie wore many hats in life. She took her first job at Badger Basket in Edgar and then worked at Vetter Windows in Stevens Point. Edie decided to go back to school and earn her GED, which she was very proud of and worked extremely hard to obtain. She continued her education, earning her degree in cosmetology and worked in salons in both Stevens Point and Schofield and had many in home appointments as well. Later, Edie studied for her commercial driver’s license and drove semi for Fischer Trucking in Fenwood and then worked for Marathon Cheese Corp. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed playing cards, gardening, camping and fishing. Most of all, she loved time spent with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Arlan, Edgar; two children: Sally (Mike) Boehm, Edgar and Scott (Michele) Osterbrink, Stratford; three grandchildren: Danielle (Ray) Dahlke, Kronenwetter, Derek Boehm, Columbus, Ohio, and Mitchell Boehm, Stevens Point; and one greatgranddaughter, Cara Rae Dahlke. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Burk; twin sisters: Sally Sigmund and Shirley Mershon; and one nephew, Brett Chesney. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Peterson/ Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Kenneth Peterson Kenneth “Ken” M. Peterson, 75, Edgar, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 He was born July 9, 1944, in Abbotsford, son of the late Lawrence and Rita (Schmitt) Peterson. On July 4, 1964, he married Judith “Judy” Szemraj at St. John’s Catholic Church, Edgar. She survives. On July 8, 1969, Ken began driving truck for 3M Corp. and drove for them until his retirement on April 1, 2005. Among his favorite pastimes, he liked gardening, yard work, fishing, baking and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was also an avid Brewer and Badger fan and enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead, with his best friends, Bill and Nancy. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Judy; four children: Shane (Laura) Peterson, Stratford, Shelly (Terence) Kafka, Wausau, Shawn Peterson, Green Bay and Shad Peterson, Edgar; three grandchildren: Dylan, Brooke and Sonia Peterson; three brothers: Duane (Rosie) Peterson, Brian (Marla) Peterson and Arden (Marie) Peterson; five sisters: Priscilla (Narcis) Dugenske, Beth (James) Panten, Theresa (Ray) Sobeck, Ann (Larry) Sundermeyer and Charlotte Peterson; one sister-in-law, Joyce Dirksen; and many nieces and nephews. Theresa Gierl Theresa Ann Gierl, 97, an exceptionally caring and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and nurse, passed away Oct. 19, 2019, in Appleton Theresa was born on April 1, 1922, in Mazomanie, to Barnabas and Josephine (nee Pechan) Stupfel, the third of seven children. She attended the one room Halfway Prairie School and Mazomanie High School. She helped her father farm for three years after her two older sisters joined the convent and her brother enlisted in WW II. At age 20 she joined the Nurse Cadet Corps to be an RN. This took her to Washington, DC, New Jersey and Jackson, Miss., making friends along the way. She returned to Wisconsin in 1945 and worked in Madison and Milwaukee. Theresa married Edward Gierl on May 24, 1950, having met through his sister, Rose Marie. They farmed and raised their four children in Athens. Nursing brought great joy to Theresa. She returned to nursing in 1960 at the Medford Hospital and was one of the first visiting home nurses in Marathon County. She and Edward moved to Tigerton in 1971 where she worked at the Tigerton Hospital, then to Clintonville in 1977 where she worked at the Viola Behling Home. Since 2002 they resided in Appleton to be closer to their grandchildren. Theresa took on any task that needed to be done, making it better with her energy and joy in serving others. She was a skilled gardener, cook and a seamstress like her Czech ancestors. She was actively involved in her Catholic parishes, including the Catholic Order of Foresters, Parish Council of Catholic Women and volunteering whenever needed. She will be greatly missed by her children: Gerard, Benedict (Karla Hayter), Mary Jo and Ann Marie (Joe Gregg); grandchildren: Daniel Gierl, Sara Gierl, Stefan Gierl, Aaron Gregg and David Gregg; cherished nieces and nephews, including her godchild, Wini Meier-Oakes. She was preceded in death by Edward in 2016; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Gierl; her siblings: Sr. Barnabas (Florence), Sr. Eulalia (Marie), both SSND; Frances Schneider, Phillip Stupfel (killed on Okinawa in 1945), Isabel (Streich) Janssen and Josephine Meier; and her brothers-in-law. Through life Theresa was a tireless, dedicated and generous person. Rose Kijak Rose M. Kijak, 86, of Mosinee, passed away on Oct. 20, 2019, at Marshfield Medical Center. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Joseph Nakwah presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. All will be held at St. Patrick’s Church. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, is assisting the family. Rose was born at home to Frank and Felice (Sienicki) Omelian on Oct. 16, 1933, in the Town of Rietbrock, Marathon County. She married Andrew T. Kijak on Oct. 21, 1953, at The Church of the Holy Family, Poniatowski. He died on Oct. 17, 1988. Rose and Andrew dairy farmed and raised their family in the Town of Emmet. She worked at Buck-A-Neer Supper Club for 30 years, and was a home caregiver for Aspirus Home Care. Her daughters traveled with her on a special trip to Rome. Rose watched her flower garden come to life in spring and kept a close eye on every flower as it was ready to bloom. She loved to embroider dresser scarves and would showcase them to her visitors. A jigsaw puzzle was always in progress for all to help piece together. Her daily companion, Smudgey, will be missing her frequent doggie treats. Rose was very proud of her family, and enjoyed calls and visits from all. She is survived by six children: Thomas (Pamela) Kijak of Kronenwetter, Theresa (Dan) Larner of San Jose, Calif., Joseph (Donna Witberler) Kijak of Mosinee, Irene Kijak of Chicago, Theodore (Susie Krukowski) Kijak of Mosinee and Edward (Cynthia Wachsmuth) Kijak of Wausau. She is further survived by nine grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca (Aaron) Wells, Eric (Katherine), Max Larner, Jake Larner, Gabriel (Jasmine), Paul (Katie), Anthony (Shannon Byrnes) and Julie; two great-grandchildren: Oakley and Ashton; one brother, Frank (Genevieve) Omelian; one sister, Catherine (Ronald) Schuette; nephews and nieces; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Felice; husband, Andrew; sons: Frank and James; two grandsons: Francis and Michael; nephew, Matthias Omelian; brother-in-law, George Urmanski; and sistersin- law: Lottie (Kijak) Urmanski, Adeline Kijak and Evelyn Kijak. Rose was so excited and happy to celebrate her grandson’s wedding this past weekend with many family and friends. She shared many stories with all. She will be remembered as a hard working, strong woman and a tender, caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss those signature chocolate caramel bars.
