Wallace Artus


Wallace “Wally” R. Artus, 92, Town of Stettin, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, with his family by his side at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Marathon, under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born November 8, 1931, in the Town of Stettin, son of the late John and Emma (Hilmershausen) Artus. On January 26, 1952, he married Elaine Ziegel in the Town of Hamburg. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2016. Wally was a dedicated dairy and ginseng farmer in the Town of Stettin his whole life. His other jobs included County Concrete, Town of Stettin, various custom field work and Van Der Geest Dairy until the age of 88. Among his favorite pastimes he enjoyed logging, cooking maple syrup, listening to polka music, playing sheepshead with his friends and spending time with his special companions, Kruizer and Hank. Survivors include six children: Kathy Artus, Kenny (Dawn Gauerke) Artus, Gary Artus, Mary (Robert) Schultz, Lynette Schuster and Kerri (Bryne) Ohde; ten grandchildren: Nicholas (Andrea) Artus, Kimberly (Robb) Knauf, Terra (Craig) Orth, Trudy (Kurt) Wahlen, Trent (Alicia) Artus, Trista (Josh) Doucette, Trevor Schultz, Tonya (Tony) Bakken, Kendra (Cliff) Miller and Kaleb Ohde; 19 great-grandchildren: Nash, Kenzie, Asher, Konner, Kyler, Kylie, Colton, Kierslyn, Cashton, Thomas, Chloe, Isaac, Mason, Lucas, Mykenna, Alexa, Rory, Jace and Zoey; special niece, Gloria (Ron) Lavicka; sister-in-law, Marvel Artus; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Elaine, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Gertrude (Leonard) Reiche, Alma (Elmer) Semerau, Alice (Leslie) Baumann, John (Leilia) Artus and James Artus. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Rib Falls United Methodist Church. Rev. Tim Gurlea will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Peterson/ Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, the staff at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Marathon, and the staff at Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care and support you gave to Wally and his family. Robert Rajek

Robert Rajek


Robert “Bob” A. Rajek passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Wausau on December 5, 1951, to Raymond and Angie Rajek, and grew up in Marathon City with his six siblings. He graduated from Newman High School in 1970 and attended UW-Oshkosh before serving six years in the Army National Guard. Bob married Louise Krause of Edgar on April 20, 1974. He continued his education, graduating from North Central Technical College where he studied computer programming. Bob worked for Sentry Insurance, Wausau Accounting Systems and, in 1988, became a partner in Wausau Financial Systems where he retired from in 2004. He loved his work tremendously, along with the close friendships he made along the way. In his free time, Bob was an active member of St Mark Parish and enjoyed volunteering in the community. He also loved traveling, going on cruises worldwide, keeping up with politics, trips to the casino with friends, and cheering on his favorite sports while enjoying a good IPA. Later in life, he spent the winters in Miramar Beach, Fla., with his family, where many wonderful memories were made. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise, children: Melissa of St. Paul, Minn., and Justin (Amanda) of Lodi; siblings: David (Mary) Rajek, Marathon, Susan Robl, West Bend, Michael Rajek, Weston and Sally Rajek, Marathon; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary Rajek, Lisa (Perry) Van Den Heuvel, Georgine (Gary) Hughes, Sue Krause, Dan Krause, Virg (Shirley) Krause, Joe (Gail) Krause, Don (Caroline) Krause, Kelly Krause and Rich (Robin) Krause, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers: Ken and Bill, and in-laws: Ken Robl, Dave Krause and Joan Krause. Private services will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Marshfield Medical Center, and Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin for their kind and compassionate care.
