David Tessmer


David J. Tessmer, 54, Athens, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, due to complications from an accident. He was born March 11, 1966, in Janesville, son of Dale (Mary) Tessmer and Vicky (Jim) Rhyner. On September 6, 1997, he married Pamela Krause at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Weston. She survives. David was a 1984 graduate of D.C. Everest High School. For many years, David worked at Marathon Electric, where he studied and served an apprenticeship for maintenance and earned two cards for electrician and millwright. He most recently was employed with Crystal Finishing, Weston. He was proud to be a veteran of the United States Marines. Among some of his favorite pastimes, he loved hunting, camping at Lake DuBay Shores and loved fishing with his children and grandkids. He also loved playing cards, especially sheepshead and Texas hold’em with family and friends. His memory will always be with you because he loved all of you unconditionally. He also loved all children as if they were his own. David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Besides his parents, survivors include his loving wife, Pamela Tessmer, Athens; his children: Gerald D. LeMay, Austin J. (Cassie) LeMay, Randi D. (Jose) Ayala, Misty-Rea (Brian) Daugherty and Heather M. Daugherty; his grandchildren: Devin, Rigo, Mercedes, Alicia, Donovan, Anastasia, Candace, Xander, Zacharriah, Conner, Collin, Grason, Alex, Adisyn, Kandon and Emma; his siblings: Steven (Diane) Tessmer, Donald (Beverly) Tessmer, Andrew (Tonya) Tessmer, Shawn (Lorana) Tessmer, Jennifer (Jason) Leber, Paul (Jackie) Leitza and Scott (Theresa) Leitza; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Judy (Skip) Mortimer, Joan Macomber, Edward (Janice) Krause and Darlene (Denise) Drewek; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by both his grandparents, Larry and Katie Obermeier and Les and Doris Tessmer; brother, Daniel Tessmer; his son, Kyle Rodriguez; his niece, Taylor Tessmer; his nephew, Donald Tessmer Jr.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Amos and Vivian Woller. A public memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday June 13, 2020, at Dennis and Darlene Drewek’s farm, 121225 County Road A, Athens, 54411. Public visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the farm. Social distancing guidelines will be in practice. Jeannine Drinsinger, age 79, of Granton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at her home. Jeannine Margaret Huebner was born on July 6, 1940, in Mankato, Minn., the daughter of George and Eleanor (Lichte) Huebner. They came to Pleasant Ridge and Jeannine attended Kurth School. She was a graduate of Zion Church Elementary School and a 1958 graduate of Granton High School. On March 7, 1959, she was united in marriage to Alfred Drinsinger. Together they owned Spaete’s Locker in Granton from 1978 to 2006. Jeannine was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church, where she served in various capacities. Her past accomplishments included taking care of the Granton Sports Complex and helping with the annual Park Picnic. She was a frequent visitor to the Granton Library and a member of the Granton Rotary. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting (and her family was generously enriched by it) and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Germany, Las Vegas and camping in Wisconsin. One of the family’s most cherished memories is of the hand-made, personalized ornaments she lovingly made each year for, first the grandchildren and more recently, the great-grandchildren. Jeannine will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by three daughters: Diane (Gary Fergot) Drinsinger, Peggy Drinsinger and Nancy Drinsinger; one son, Dale (Janice Kallian) Drinsinger; five grandchildren: Beth (Mark) Peckham, Patrick Schmidt, Ben (Jamie) Collins, Amanda Drinsinger and Dennis Johnson; and six great-grandchildren: Mason, Chase, Jordan, Gavin, Gus and Kristopher. She is further survived by a sister, Betty (Greg) Mallory; and two brothers: DeWayne (Anita) Huebner and Ronnie (Deb) Huebner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in September of 2012, her parents, grandparents and cousins. Private services will be held with the family. Paid obituary 82275 Lorna Rietz Lorna Rietz, 102, passed away Nov. 25, 2019, under the care of St. Croix Hospice and the Athenian Assisted Living staff. She was the first resident of her beloved new home. She was born July 29, 1917, in Holloway, MN, to Henry and Ida (Callies) Mattheisen. Lorna graduated from Stanley High School and Chippewa County Normal School, and taught in the Loyal area. She married George W. Rietz in 1938. They farmed in the Town of Bern until retiring in 1979. They especially enjoyed raising and showing their registered Belgian horses at state and local fairs. They participated for many years in the Circus World Parade and took part in the Bicentennial Wagon Train in 1976, traveling to Portage in their covered wagon. They also enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, gardening, playing cards, making and selling their crafts. Lorna is survived by two sons: Gordon (Jan Carroll), Medford and Gary (Janice Strunk), Fifield; grandchildren: Wilber, Athens, Wendy (Delbert) Ford, Springfield, Ill., and Cindy, Medford; great-grandchildren: Clint Spreen, Dawson and Dylan Ford; and great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee Spreen. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; three brothers and five sisters; and a grandson, Adam Rietz. A funeral services was held on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at Christ United Church, Athens. Entombment was in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements. Paid obituary 82350 Jacob Altenhofen Jacob “Jack” G. Altenhofen, 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019. He was born June 25, 1937, in Marathon, son of the late Jacob and Victoria (Kohlbeck) Altenhofen. On May 9, 1964, he married Marion Corda in Wausau. Jack served his country in the United States Air Force and before retirement worked for 36 years at Wisconsin Public Service as a substation electrician. He enjoyed gardening, growing pumpkins, making maple syrup and was also a master Sheepshead player. He was a “Jack-of-all-trades”, especially when it came to building things. Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather who also had a great love for dogs. Survivors include his wife, Marion Altenhofen; children, Scott (Michelle), Daniel (Dana) and Glen (Natalie) Altenhofen; grandchildren, Kyle, Kate, Haylee, Hunter and Marlena Altenhofen; sister, Vicky (Ken) Petznick; many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann; infant son, Ronald; twin brother, Jim Altenhofen; sister, Catherine Gassner; brothers, Roger and Charles Altenhofen; and David Kohlbeck. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at Peterson/ Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier presided. Visitation was Wednesday from noon until the time of service, all at the Marathon funeral home. Private burial was in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Edith Emon Edith “Edie” C. Emon, 72, Edgar, went to be with her Father in heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born April 8, 1947, in Wausau, daughter of the late Reinhold and Flossie (Bacon) Burk. On Aug. 28, 1993, she married Arlan Emon in Wausau. He survives. Edie wore many hats in life. She took her first job at Badger Basket in Edgar and then worked at Vetter Windows in Stevens Point. Edie decided to go back to school and earn her GED, which she was very proud of and worked extremely hard to obtain. She continued her education, earning her degree in cosmetology and worked in salons in both Stevens Point and Schofield and had many in home appointments as well. Later, Edie studied for her commercial driver’s license and drove semi for Fischer Trucking in Fenwood and then worked for Marathon Cheese Corp. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed playing cards, gardening, camping and fishing. Most of all, she loved time spent with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Arlan, Edgar; two children: Sally (Mike) Boehm, Edgar and Scott (Michele) Osterbrink, Stratford; three grandchildren: Danielle (Ray) Dahlke, Kronenwetter, Derek Boehm, Columbus, Ohio, and Mitchell Boehm, Stevens Point; and one greatgranddaughter, Cara Rae Dahlke. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Burk; twin sisters: Sally Sigmund and Shirley Mershon; and one nephew, Brett Chesney. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Peterson/ Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Theresa Gierl Theresa Ann Gierl, 97, an exceptionally caring and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and nurse, passed away Oct. 19, 2019, in Appleton Theresa was born on April 1, 1922, in Mazomanie, to Barnabas and Josephine (nee Pechan) Stupfel, the third of seven children. She attended the one room Halfway Prairie School and Mazomanie High School. She helped her father farm for three years after her two older sisters joined the convent and her brother enlisted in WW II. At age 20 she joined the Nurse Cadet Corps to be an RN. This took her to Washington, DC, New Jersey and Jackson, Miss., making friends along the way. She returned to Wisconsin in 1945 and worked in Madison and Milwaukee. Theresa married Edward Gierl on May 24, 1950, having met through his sister, Rose Marie. They farmed and raised their four children in Athens. Nursing brought great joy to Theresa. She returned to nursing in 1960 at the Medford Hospital and was one of the first visiting home nurses in Marathon County. She and Edward moved to Tigerton in 1971 where she worked at the Tigerton Hospital, then to Clintonville in 1977 where she worked at the Viola Behling Home. Since 2002 they resided in Appleton to be closer to their grandchildren. Theresa took on any task that needed to be done, making it better with her energy and joy in serving others. She was a skilled gardener, cook and a seamstress like her Czech ancestors. She was actively involved in her Catholic parishes, including the Catholic Order of Foresters, Parish Council of Catholic Women and volunteering whenever needed. She will be greatly missed by her children: Gerard, Benedict (Karla Hayter), Mary Jo and Ann Marie (Joe Gregg); grandchildren: Daniel Gierl, Sara Gierl, Stefan Gierl, Aaron Gregg and David Gregg; cherished nieces and nephews, including her godchild, Wini Meier-Oakes. She was preceded in death by Edward in 2016; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Gierl; her siblings: Sr. Barnabas (Florence), Sr. Eulalia (Marie), both SSND; Frances Schneider, Phillip Stupfel (killed on Okinawa in 1945), Isabel (Streich) Janssen and Josephine Meier; and her brothers-in-law. Through life Theresa was a tireless, dedicated and generous person. Much gratitude to neighbors and friends, the wonderful people at Appleton Retirement Community, the staff at Rennes and Ascension Hospice. Rose Kijak Rose M. Kijak, 86, of Mosinee, passed away on Oct. 20, 2019, at Marshfield Medical Center. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Joseph Nakwah presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. All will be held at St. Patrick’s Church. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, is assisting the family. Rose was born at home to Frank and Felice (Sienicki) Omelian on Oct. 16, 1933, in the Town of Rietbrock, Marathon County. She married Andrew T. Kijak on Oct. 21, 1953, at The Church of the Holy Family, Poniatowski. He died on Oct. 17, 1988. Rose and Andrew dairy farmed and raised their family in the Town of Emmet. She worked at Buck-A-Neer Supper Club for 30 years, and was a home caregiver for Aspirus Home Care. Her daughters traveled with her on a special trip to Rome. Rose watched her flower garden come to life in spring and kept a close eye on every flower as it was ready to bloom. She loved to embroider dresser scarves and would showcase them to her visitors. A jigsaw puzzle was always in progress for all to help piece together. Her daily companion, Smudgey, will be missing her frequent doggie treats. Rose was very proud of her family, and enjoyed calls and visits from all. She is survived by six children: Thomas (Pamela) Kijak of Kronenwetter, Theresa (Dan) Larner of San Jose, Calif., Joseph (Donna Witberler) Kijak of Mosinee, Irene Kijak of Chicago, Theodore (Susie Krukowski) Kijak of Mosinee and Edward (Cynthia Wachsmuth) Kijak of Wausau. She is further survived by nine grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca (Aaron) Wells, Eric (Katherine), Max Larner, Jake Larner, Gabriel (Jasmine), Paul (Katie), Anthony (Shannon Byrnes) and Julie; two great-grandchildren: Oakley and Ashton; one brother, Frank (Genevieve) Omelian; one sister, Catherine (Ronald) Schuette; nephews and nieces; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Felice; husband, Andrew; sons: Frank and James; two grandsons: Francis and Michael; nephew, Matthias Omelian; brother-in-law, George Urmanski; and sistersin- law: Lottie (Kijak) Urmanski, Adeline Kijak and Evelyn Kijak. Rose was so excited and happy to celebrate her grandson’s wedding this past weekend with many family and friends. She shared many stories with all. She will be remembered as a hard working, strong woman and a tender, caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss those signature chocolate caramel bars.
