Joseph F. Spinler


1949-2023 Joseph F. Spinler, Jr., age 73, of Medford passed away on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at Aspirus Medford Hospital. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held by family at a later date. Joseph was born on Oct. 14, 1949, in Rome, N.Y. to Joseph and Eleanor (Curtis) Spinler. His family then located to Antigo where he spent his childhood before moving to Southern Wisconsin to finish school. He took a sheet metal class and started a career in metal finishing. He was an active member of The Kenosha Kingsmen drum and bugle color guard. He later moved to Medford where he met Patricia Miller. On March 21, 1995, he was united in marriage to Patricia in Las Vegas. They then bought and operated a supper club in Southern Wisconsin before moving to Spencer in 2005. After retirement, Joe became “Ala Joe” or “Mr. Ala Carte” at the Marshfield High School, working with the kids was a job he loved. He and Pat moved back to Medford in 2020. He loved gardening, going fishing and hunting. He enjoyed playing a game of pool or darts and he loved bowling. He was also interested in birdwatching. He and Pat enjoyed camping in their trailer on Mayflower Lake where they had a permanent campsite. Joe was a huge fan for his grandkids at sports games and enjoyed cheering them on. Those who will cherish his memory include his loving wife, Patricia; his children, Joseph (Melissa) Wayne, Lance Spinler, Candice (Jared) Jefferis and his bonus children, Matthew Miller, Jeff (Julie) Miller and Tina Miller; his grandchildren, Christopher Hendrix, Josh Irving, Aiden Bloomer, Riley Spinler, Luke Wayne, Samantha (Adam) Bosacki, Victoria (Derek) Pfughoeft, Matthew Miller, Jr., Gina Miller, Jed Miller and Brecca Miller; his greatgrandchildren, Lily, Xavier and Caden Hendrix and Little Joey Pfughoeft (named for big grandpa, Joe). He is further survived by his siblings, Gary (Barb) Spinler, Judy Terlecki, Linda (Bill) Soloman, Erwin (Cheri) Spinler, Bryon (Sue) Spinler, Brenda (Kevin) Mooney, Richard (Maggie) Spinler, Mary (Ken) Jorgensen, Sherry (Chad) Williams, Debby (Bob) Dwyer and Danny Storey; his aunt, Jane Carlson along with 41 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eleanor Spinler, Sr.; his uncles, Curly, Sonny, Bud and Corky Curtis and Richard and Paul Spinler; his aunt, Yvonne; nephews, Scott Spinler and Brandon Storey and bonus son, Tony Miller. Gordon A. Dietzler

Gordon A. Dietzler


1940-2023 Gordon A. Dietzler, age 82, of Gilman, passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Per Gordon’s wishes, no services will be held. Gordon Arthur Dietzler was born on Dec. 28, 1940 in Jump River, the son of Frank E. and Belva (Smith) Dietzler. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Gilman area schools, graduating from Gilman High School in 1958. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. Gordon returned to Gilman and farmed with his parents until being united in marriage to Mary Ann Kowal on May 28, 1966, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. They farmed in Gilman until moving to Elk Grove Village, Ill. in 1987, where he worked as a mechanical engineer in the heat treating industry. After retiring in 2007, he moved back to Gilman to enjoy the great outdoors and the house he built with his wife Mary Ann. He had many interests, but especially loved ice fishing, hunting, playing chess, and watching the birds and animals. He was also very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Gordon is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Dietzler, of Gilman; three children, Michael Dietzler, Kelly Dietzler, Tanya (Adam) Szatkowski; four grandchildren, Gabe and Kya Dietzler, and Hunter and Maison Szatkowski. Janet Kring Schopper

Janet Kring Schopper


1934-2023 Janet Kring Schopper, 88, of Rib Lake, and recently Aspirus Country Gardens, passed away at Aspirus Medford Hospital on Jan. 12, 2023, after a brief illness. Janet was born at home in Lincoln County, on Feb. 14, 1934, to Lawrence and Mildred (Scheller) Johnson. She attended elementary school in Spirit Falls, and graduated in 1952 from Rib Lake High School. Janet married James Kring on June 7, 1952, in Ogema. Together they raised seven children, Jill, Bainbridge Island, Wash., Kerry (Sandra), Brantwood, Kim (Lynnette), Phillips, Debra (Ken) Spellman, Haines City, Fla., Julie (Patrick) Lord, Prentice, Timothy, Port Charlotte, Fla., and Lorelei, Waukesha. James preceded Janet in death in 2005. On June 23, 2007, Janet married Harold Schopper, a former Rib Lake High School classmate. They spent their summers in Rib Lake, and winters in Sheffield, Pa. They enjoyed 14 and a half years together until his death on Dec. 12, 2021. Janet was a member of the Spirit United Methodist Church, and was their state Annual Conference representative for many years. She was an occasional lay speaker in her church and in other United Methodist churches in the surrounding counties. Janet’s cousin Dorothy Dettmering introduced her to Christian clowning, and one summer the two performed during campground worship services in the Tomahawk area. An avid reader and life-long learner, Janet obtained an associate degree in psychology from the UW-Center-Medford in 1979. She worked as a youth counselor at Lincoln Hills School and as a home health aide in Price County. She also worked in her brother’s businesses, Denny’s Restaurant and The Old Towne Mall in Tomahawk. Janet was a self-taught pianist, guitarist, and artist. She shared her talents in her church through her music, speaking, and in creating banners for display. She enjoyed singing alto in her church and area community ecumenical choir. She was perhaps best known for her oil paintings, selling hundreds of commissioned landscapes and portraits. Janet is survived by her seven children; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (two more expected in February and March); her brothers, Gordon (Lillian) Johnson, Appleton, Dennis Johnson, New Richmond, and Kenneth (Theresa) Johnson, Ogema; brothers-in-law, Douglas Kring and Eugene Schopper; stepdaughters, Lori Schopper and Susan Lewis. She is further survived by her “little sister-cousin,” Laurie Barnes; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one brother, Eugene; and one granddaughter. The family is planning a memorial service to take place in the spring. 1979-2023 Kevin A. Keiser, 43, of Medford (previously of Rib Lake), passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023 at his home under the care of St. Croix Hospice surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 14, 2023 at Zondlo’s Bar and Ballroom in Rib Lake. Kevin was born on Jan. 8, 1979 in Racine, to Randy and Sandy (Matus) Keiser. He grew up in Salem, and graduated from Westosha Central High School, class of 1997. He currently worked at Multitek Inc. in Prentice, as a Business Operations Manager. On Nov. 5, 2022, he married Tanya Kauer (Fuchs) at their home. Kevin was an avid Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with his sons and family. Kevin is survived by his wife, Tanya Keiser; parents, Randy and Sandy (Matus) Keiser of Rib Lake; brother Jeff (Kasey Foster) Keiser of Ogema; sons, Trinity Keiser of Kenosha, Ashton Keiser of Eau Claire, Ethan Keiser of Medford; niece Layla Keiser and Kasey Foster’s daughter Noelle Foster; stepson Chandler (Taylor Popke) Kauer of Rib Lake and granddaughter Clementine Kauer. 1931-2023 Andrew J. Brost, 91, of Medford, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 at Aspirus Medford Hospital. A Memorial service for Andrew will take place at Hemer-Pickerign Funeral Home, Medford, on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Military Honor will be performed by the Medford Military Honors Team. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 at the Medford VFW Post 5729, 240 S 8th St, Medford, WI 54451. Andy was born on July 19, 1931 to Anton S. and Emma C. Brost. He graduated from Medford High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving from 1949–1952 during the Korean Conflict. Andy participated in Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin campaign; and participated in operations against enemy forces in south and central Korea. Following his proud service, he worked at Allen-Bradley in Milwaukee before returning to Medford to work as a custodian at Medford Senior High School until his retirement. He married his wife of 66 years, Lois, on May 5, 1956 in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. They had a family of eight children, three daughters and five sons. Andy was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren to which he loved dearly. This was something he held close to his heart. As he would often say, “I can’t wait to see my little people.” Andy is survived by his wife, Lois Brost; children, Virginia Brost of Medford, Joseph (Kristin) Brost of Rothschild, Lynn (James) Duesing of Medford, John (Crystal) Brost of Medford, Kristine (Calvin) Kalmon of Withee, James Brost of Ogema, Jerrold (Paula) Brost of Weston, and Mark (Tonya) Brost of Kronenwetter; grandchildren, Stefanie, Jordan, Janelle, Abby, Andrea, Ryan, Scott, Zane, Helaina, Alisha, Isaiah, Rainy, Keely, Kenya, Adam, Kallie, Jack, Chelsea, and Tyler; and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Schmidt of Kansas City, Mo. Andrew is further survived by other family and friends.
