Trinity Youth will host Friday Night Dinner by the Gazebo this Friday, Sept. 9.
Serving will start at 5 p.m. and go until the Athens Old Timers concert ends.
Dinner will consist of hot ham and cheese sandwiches, chips, pickle, soda and water and assorted desserts.
If it rains, the dinner and concert will be moved to underneath the Athens Memorial Park shelter.
This Friday’s Old Timers Band concert concludes the 2022 concert series. The first Old Timers concert next year will be on June 2, 2023.
Aluminum can drive
The Athens public schools athletic department has an aluminum can collection available for people to donate their cans year round at the Heartland Cooperative C Store, located at 900 Pine St. in Athens.
Dale and Tracy Westfall transport the donated alumninum cans to a scrap yard to get money to help support Athens public school athletic teams.
Since October, $2,000 in aluminum can donation proceeds were made to support Athens public school athletic teams.
Senior Citizens
The Senior Citizens card group met on Sept. 1 for week-ly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Three games of Sheepshead were played. Butch Boris won the first game and Andy Hoest took second place. Alvira Henrichs won the second game and Bitsy Ewan placed second. Doc Weise won the third game and Jan Lake took second place. Rick Schaetzel received low score.
Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
Farmers Market
The Athens Farmers Market is held every Tuesday during the summer, from 4-7 p.m., in Athens Veterans Memorial Park.
Lions Club meetings
Athens-area residents are welcome to attend the Athens Lions Club’s monthly meetings, which are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, alternating between Balz Inn and Landmark Bar.
Anyone with questions can call Athens Lions Club member Steve Sondelski at 715-2181496. New members and guests are always welcome at the monthly meetings.
Book Club
The public is welcome at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, to join the Marathon County Athens Branch Library staff and fellow literary enthusiasts to discuss the book titled, “Nine Perfect Strangers” by author Liane Moriarty.
People with questions on the August Book Club can call the Athens library at 715-257-7292.
Christian music
Rockin’ Redemption will perform free Christian music for the public in the Athens bandstand On the Square on Thursday, Sept. 15.
People are asked to bring their friends and family, along with lawn chairs to enjoy an evening of positive music and fun.
Family Story Time
Children of all ages and their parents/guardians are welcome to attend Family Story Time from 10:30-11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at the Athens library.
Parents/guardians can enjoy learning with their children through stories, songs and other literature-based activities.
