Athens Middle School has announced its honor roll for the first quarter of the 2021-22 school year.

Highest Honors Grade six: Itzel Espinoza.

High Honors Grade six: Jaelin Switlick, Ted Schultz-Becker, Trisha Giese, Kaleb Staus, Jospeh Servi, Derek Yessa and Hayden Weideman.

Grade eight: Sy’Rih Hartwig, Isabella Zastrow, Jordan Frahm and Riley Schulz-Becker.

Honors Grade six: Alex Belter, Christopher Velazquez and Bradley Schmidt.

Grade seven: Dale Felix, Delaney Beasley, Karly Eckert, Garrett Frahm, Cole Hartmann, Ava Erickson and Brock Beaty.

Grade eight: Evin Passehl, Brandon Krause, Vanessa Espinoza, Bradley Yessa and Alyvia Haehlke.

Christmas concerts

Athens Elementary School will hold its Christmas concert at 1 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 10, in the high school gym.

The Athens middle/high school Christmas concert will be at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 12, in the high school gym.

Trinity Lutheran School in Athens will hold its Christmas program at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19, in the church. The Christmas program dress re- hearsal is at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.

St. Anthony de Padua Catholic School in Athens will have its Christmas program at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, in the church. The program is called, “What the Spiders Taught.”

Book Club

The public is welcome to stop by the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch during the month of December to pick up a copy of holiday romance novel “Christmas at the Island Hotel,” by author Jenny Colgan, along with discussion questions.

Soup and craft sale

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan is having a soup carry out and craft sale from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 11.

There is a fee for the homemade quarts of soup including chili, chicken dumpling, cheesy broccoli-cauliflower and sauerkraut chili.

People must pre-order soup by calling 715-680-0078 between Wednesday, Dec. 1, and Friday, Dec. 10.

COVID dashboard

Athens Public Schools reported one positive case of COVID- 19 as of Dec. 6 out of 552 staff and students.

There is one positive case of COVID-19 among Athens School District staff.

Thirty-one staff and students have tested positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 31, 2021.

Senior Citizens

The Senior Citizens card group met on Dec. 2 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Two games of Sheepshead was played. Steve Klockziem won the first game and Butch Boris took second place. Alvira Henrichs won the second game and Wil Strack placed second. Doc Weise received low score.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
