Fireworks are still on

Athens Lions Club will have the fireworks at dusk on Friday, July 3. All other activities are canceled for the safety of the Athens community.

A livestream will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, to announce the winners of the raffle.

Raffle tickets can be purchased from any Athens Lions Club member, or at Balz Inn or Forever Remembered in Athens. People and businesses can also make a monetary donation for the fireworks at either Balz Inn or Forevever Remembered.

IRONBULL 5K

IRONBULL and the Athens Area Trails Association are hosting a Choose Your Own Adventure 5K continues until this Sunday, June 14, at Erbach Park in Athens.

People who want to participate in the free run/walk can register at www.ironbull.com to be eligible to win prizes.

Senior Citizens

The Senior Citizens card group met on June 4 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Two games of Sheepshead was played. Butch Boris won the first game and Pat Frank took second place. Andy Hoest won the second game and Steve Klockziem placed second. Ceil Frank received low score.

The Senior Citizens card group will play cards again at 1 p.m. this Thursday, June 11, at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Library item pickup

The Marathon County Public Library Athens Branch began offering curbside pickup of materials on Monday.

Library patrons must call the Athens library at 715-257-7292 during its hours of operation from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and also from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesdays to request items and schedule a pickup time, and then arrive at the agreed upon pickup time.

College honors

Several students from Stratford have been awarded to the UW-Stevens Point honor roll for the spring semester of the 2019-20 academic year: College students receiving highest honors are senior Kaylyn Schreiner and Taylor Henrichs. Senior Sharalyn Zettler was awarded high honors. Sophomores Kenton Anderson and Adam Detert received honors.

No band concerts

The Athens Old Timers Band concerts are not occurring for the foreseeable future unless the COVID-19 pandemic improves.

Farmers Market

The Athens Farmers Market is held every Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
