Top monthly students

Athens Middle School Students of the Month for November are: Jenna Handschke, agriculture and natural resources; Brandon Krause, physical education; Arwyn Stewart, technology and engineering education and Evin Passehl, information technology.

Athens High School Students of the Month for November are: Maleah Redmann, equine science; Dayne Diethelm, physical education; Irvin Chacon, Spanish; Starla Vilter, family and consumer education; Caleb Sarasin, technology and engineering education; Johnathon Nowacki, business information technology and Paula Lira, peer tutor.

Dean’s list

Miranda Grabowski of Athens has been named to the 2019 fall semester Dean’s list at St. Norbert College in DePere.

Weekly knitting

Adults can practice their knitting, crocheting and more on a weekly basis with new sessions of Needle Arts afternoons from 1-4 p.m. each Tuesday until Dec. 31 at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline Street.

Senior Citizens

The Senior Citizens card group met on Dec. 19 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.

Two games of Sheepshead were played. Norbert Lake won the first game and Ceil Frank took second place. Pat Frank won the second game and Butch Boris placed second. Sally Whaples received low score.

The Senior Citizens card group is not playing this Thursday, Dec. 26. Card playing will resume at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. The Senior Citizens card group welcomes any new members who want to play Sheepshead from 1-3:30 p.m. every Thursday.

as read. The only December birthday was Abby Miller. The only committee report was from Cloverbuds. They were unable to meet on Dec. 1 because of the weather, so their projects were handed out at the meeting. A project meeting is planned for the end of January.

Old business was discussed. A thank you note was read from the Circle of Joy for the club’s recent food donation. The rest of the Athens Fair checks were handed out and Erika Zettler was recognized for being the Outstanding Cloverbud.

New business included a reminder of the candy bar sale in March. The club received its check for selling concessions. Maleah Redmann asked the club for a donation to help her rescue a mustang. Club members voted to give her $60 to cover some expenses.

Kaylyn Schreiner and Mc-Kale Redmann thanked the club for their college care package. The club will be tying blankets after the January meeting.

The Ha-Ha-Box winner was Hunter Leffel. The meeting was adjourned and club members went into to the high school commons to decorate cookies to donate to the Salvation Army.

Open House

The Poniatowski Dare Devils Snowmobile Club is having a 50th anniversary open house on Saturday, Feb. 8, from noon until 6 p.m. at the club’s shed, which is located at 126866 Cherry Grove Lane in rural Edgar.

There will be food and drinks available at the open house. The Poniatowski Dare Devils Snowmobile Club was established in

1970.

Weaving initiative

All ages of people can participate in a community-wide weaving project from Jan. 2 through March 19 at the Marathon County Public Library’s Athens Branch, located at 221 Caroline St.

People can add to this ever evolving project using yarn and other textile materials any timne the branch is open. People wanting more information on this community initiative can call the Athens library at 715-257-7292.

Athens Acres meets

The Athens Acres 4-H Club met on Dec. 17 in the Athens High School music room.

Pledges were said and roll call was taken with 31 members present. The secretary minutes and treasury reports were approved
